Which is why I have a special e-mail account set up solely and specifically for job hunting.  My usual account is bizarre@isp.com.  I have a firstname.lastname@lycos.com set up and used only for my resume and online job applications.

Which goes to show, most employers don't know what the heck their employment specialist, or whoever they put in charge of hiring...knows about hiring.  Sad but true.  The article basically relates that it is not what one can actually do, or what one's actual capabilities are...but who looks and sounds the best...aka...it's a popularity contest.

Perhaps the article should add that most of those with reasonable sounding names and such, get hired via a vehicle now known in society as...networking...

The others better do something to get noticed...or those being networked are going to beat them to the chase.  In that world...babydoll@finance.com will at least get one's attention before...RileySmith@hotmail.com

In otherwords, the author of the article, in my view, is an idiot.

Email is not a calling card overall...now a website...that might be different...but if they were applying for being a webdesigner or working on computers, I could care LESS what the actual content was, I'd be looking at the source code and seeing what the person did in making their website.

Obviously someone looking at the pictures and such doesn't know what the heck to look for when someone supplies a website.  If it's not pertinent to the job...well...just do what MOST employers do...look at the front page of the resume...all the rest is extra baggage.

Ah, so young and naive.    You are quite right, when you hire someone you should be looking only at the qualifications and aptitude of the person for the job.  Unfortunately you also have to look at the whole person.

How are they dressed, how do they speak, what is the overall picture of the person?  How will that person fit into my office?  A cute e-mail addy isn't a deal breaker, but it says volumes about the person and personality of the applicant and when I hire someone one of my top criteria is being professional.  Unless you're a hooker, cocktail server, or child actor, cute isn't professional.

So I should hide what I truly am until I get hired and then I can feel free to be myself?  How depressing!  But then I have heard that I have quite the oral talent and might just make an outstanding hooker!

Mmmmm maybe that's why I was never one of the "popular girls" in high school!  I dressed the way I wanted, I spoke the way I wanted too, I hardly ever wore makeup (gasp! horror! shock!), I read comic books and role played a LOT of games.  Still managed to get laid often enough though . . .  And NO I wasn't easy in high school!  Heh heh I was just experimenting . . .  yeah that's it, experimenting!

Oh and Ferret, honey baby, you made my eyes bleed with that link.  Try not to do that again, please?

Look at the bright side Alien, he could have posted a link to Shatner attempting to sing. Nimoy sounds like Pavarotti in comparison.

So sad I'm going to have shave the mohawk and sell my soul to become a corporate slave in a couple of years. Damn employers with their professionalism.
