Constitution Class By Me :) USS Lexington
« on: March 02, 2003, 02:24:09 am »
You know, I remember someone saying that I badly needed a "Texturing Tutorial" very recently, I probably shouldnt mention by who, but the topic had hundreds of views, so I imagine we all know without me saying. It just seems funny to me that "someone" would say that and I can make something like this in about 4 days. Wierd huh?

Anyway here is my latest work.

You can get it here...

Good mesh,  but your Texturing needs work. Textures look Blured and not Canon, Other than that, good job.

Give him time im sure it will improve in any case no one said that all constitutions had to look identical. There could be slight variations in hull plating, and coloring (not all the US Navy nimitz class carriers look identical even tho they are the same class)

Actually, this is the final draft, and Rick Knox even gave the whole thing a thumbs up. So I think that about all the work it needs. I plan to make another one in a few months. IYou have to remember, the textures are on a 512 x 512 pallete, there is only so much you can do without bluring. unless you want to texture each panel individually.

4 days! You should take more time and you would not have that Blure problem, and your soucer don't look round.

That saucer is plenty round for a game model. and the textures arent all that blury unless you get close, just like any texture. as I said, they are only a 512 by 512 texture. kinda hard to make something as big as, oh say,a SAUCER section not look a little tiny bit fuzzy when its on a texture that small.
Also I just realised I posted pics that didnt have all the texture tweeks, mainly the impulse modual, so Ill re-upload new ones after this post for my first post.

Thanks LS, thats what I was going for, I drop shadowed it for that effect, like a ship that has many many lightyears on it and has seen a little action

You know a lighting tutorial would be helpfull.

My first few attempts at light maps sucked the effects are a bit harder to get correct  than I thougth.

Which is why none of the ships I made have any light maps.

But the ship look great.

All right, I have to flame this model:

It doesn't have a New York license plate on it.
