Another texture
« on: May 17, 2004, 10:59:21 am »
In keeping with stealth techno here is a new texture. I've also thought this might be more in keeping with Tholian design...

I'm going to owrk on one that is in keeping with the "goldish" coloration I've seen used by others here. I'll post it when I happy with it.

Best,
Jerry

this might be of some use...

For silver i use ABBBC1
For gold i use FFCC3C
For platinum i use 9C9BCF
and for steel i use varying shades of grey.

your gold didnt have enough red in it IMHO.

You could be right about the red, though I really dislike some of the orange-ish look of some Tholian models.

I was trying to keep the contrast down/minimal on the gold texture as I understand it can be a problem for the modeller. Is this assumption incorrect?

Thanks.

PS:

For some silvers I use #C0C0C0. That seems to work too.

Thanks for the info. I'll use it soonest.

I created them in Photoshop, but I thought you could use them in 3ds Max. Am I mistaken?

Most textures are made in Photoshop or PaintShop Pro, they are applied in Max or other programs to ships.

Is there a particular file format? ie, jpg, gif, or other that is preferred?

Most of the time we moders here use BMP because that is the type the games support. At BCFiles they use TGA files because that is what the game over there supports. BMP files have the higher bit ratios that the others and there fore store more detail. BUMP files store more but nothing outside of renders can these be used for.

So given a choice I would say go with BMP files, because they contain more detail. We can always covert them if need be, as that is a easy process to do.
