LED's on the Motheroard
« on: May 17, 2004, 09:03:54 am »
Ok simple question:

Why the hell isn't there a universal setup for the LED's to go into the MB?
I mean, is it just me? Or is that some serious annoyance.
Any explanation? Or attempt at explaining this stupid situation to me?

Cheers, Andy.

having built more computers than I care to remember, this lack of standardisation does annoy the crap out of me. The last computer I built (actually mine, so better to say re-built rather than built as a lot of the old machine survived) has a Soltek mobo, which uses one of the more intelligent labelling systems for the LED's and switches. The last Asus board I used was okay as well. MSI, ECS, Gigabyte, and Abit have lousy labelling for the LED's.

As to why there isn't a standard, its simple - not enough people have asked for it yet! I keep e-mailing mobo manufacturers' tech support staff asking them why the hell they can't fo something this simple, and they keep telling me that until enough people call for it they won't spend any time working out some way of making sure its easy to wire the LED's and switches up.

My new SOYO mobo was ridiculously easy to wire up. A trained monkey could have done it.

I want a SOYO to be the standard, also we should get trained monkeys as a perk.

Ummm, could you send that monkey over to my house the next time I rebuild my system? No matter
how many times I build my own computer I still screw up those damn wires. I've never gotten
it right on the first try.

well if the monkey was available, I'd send him. However he's booked solid through August.

Anyways, if you check out the board,
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-139-131&depa=1
check out the bottom left in the second picture. there are two red hook ups for SATA things, and to the right of those (below in the picture) is the hookups for the LED's.  Under that, in the .25 inch or so space is a diagram of what to plug in where.  Very nice.
