How difficult do you play it?

Its wednesday night, last week.

At some hour during the night I complete Jedi Knight: Jedi Outkast.

It had occupied me for 2 weeks(obviously not 2 straight weeks, but all the gaming time i had in that 2 weeks ).

It was entertaining.

It was fun.

And there was a sequel on the shelves already waiting for me(just purchased it yesterday).

The next night I had some free time. Normally if I have nothing 'real' to do I might play a game for a little while. With nothing 'new' to instantly grab my attention, and more out of habit,  I load up JK:JO . I decide I'll start a new game. I had played it on Normal difficulty.

I had either a choice of Hard (called Jedi Knight) or Hardest (Jedi Master).

So I picked the next one up and after about a largely unfufilling hour had passed turned it off. Not because it was too difficult to play, but because some of the novelty had worn off and the early levels aren't as attractive as the later ones in the game (still fresh in my memory then).

I found myself thinking maybe I should have started it in a higher difficulty setting - maybe even the highest? Maybe I would have enjoyed it even more first time round? etc etc

For those of you who have read this far and have not already clicked the back button in bordom - what approach do you take to games? Anyone else had these thoughts?

Do you start at easy and work yourself up until it becomes no fun and drop a level or is the other way round?

Normally I tend to start on 'Normal' then if its good play it all the way through for as long as it takes. I don't normally play it again, I'm thinking maybe i should.

How disposable are games to you? How much do you like replay value? How long do you  expect  to be entertained/challenged?

I just started a new game with my recently acquired JK:JA... I've set the difficulty to the second highest - just to see if I am missing anything.

Well, usually I start on normal mode, then once thats finished krank it up to UBER LEET KILLAGE mode (Hardest).
I have to say though, that Jedi Academy in my mind is in no way a sequal, it is a pure expansion labelled as a sequal.
There is no advancement in the games really, maybe a few bug irons, character skins and saber styles, but nothing to call it a sequal.
