The Leigons are an extra-galactic race. Almost two standard years ago a large swarm of several thousand ships appeared in a frontier part of Romulan space and ?disappeared? without a trace just as the hostilities between the B? Lorians, another extra-galactic race, and Hydrans ended in an ?undeclared cease-fire?. The Leigons left a path of destruction from the Tholian-Klingon border to the Romulan side of the Klingon-Romulan border. They how and why all of these galactic events occurred still remains a mystery to this day.
What little factual information we do have about the Leigons is sketchy at best. The Leigons have several types of ?arachnid-like? starships. The Vinagrone appears to be the smallest Legion vessel, the Wolf-Spider, as well as the Wolf-Spider II, appear to be cruiser-sized and the Sunspider appears to be in the range of a heavy battlecruiser to a heavy dreadnought. These Legion ships appear to be the most numerous at the present time. A t least one new form of Leigon ship has appeared; the Darkling class and its specifications are unknown at the present time. What makes the Leigons so remarkable is the fact that the Leigons have managed to create a huge fleet from a handful of original ships using ?cannibalized? ships, resources and materials that they captured along their routes of travel. This in and of itself is a testament to the Leigon engineering capability; their ships are relatively uniform is design, have many interchangeable parts and are designed in such a fashion that they can ?live off the land? for many years of uneventful duty without requiring any maintenance. It is important to note that the Leigon swarm in question successfully attacked a Klingon starbase, Goloth Base, and destroyed its attendant ships, a nearby starbase and at least one inhabited Klingon colony before disappearing into Romulan space. It is unclear why the Leigons did not go into Tholian space. It is generally believed that the Leigons probably could not use anything the Tholians have as they are a silicon based life form. In contrast, the Leigons are known to extract the crews of non-Tholian ships for the grim purpose of finding food. Leigons rarely ?hunt? outside of a small group, as they prefer to operate with overwhelming force as their primary objective is to capture raw materials so that they may add more ships to their swarm.
Now, unless the Leigons are a prolific race with a very short maturation cycle, it is unlikely that every single Leigon ship is fully crewed. There is an unconfirmed rumor that a non-Legion ship dubbed a ?Grom? was seen amongst the swarm. If this is true than perhaps the Legions also rely on a sophisticated cybernetic or automated control system for a large number of their ships in a given swarm. Perhaps a single Leigon is capable of controlling a dozen ships. Nobody knows at the present time.
Beware of the Leigon arachnid ships!
