Problem with SFC3 after MS Security Update CD
« on: May 08, 2004, 09:31:52 pm »
Had been using SFC3 build 531 and the GAW patch without problem. Used the free MS Security Update CD that got mailed out about March. There after my attempts to run SFC3 would either result in a screen like this   screen image or a complete  re-boot directly after the mission loading screen was about transition into the game screen.

Thought I may have screwed up my DirectX version so I followed the complete directions for the SFC3 Patch 1.01 Beta 2 Build V531 that was just released, including deleting all the previous SFC3 directories and files & then getting the latest DirectX 9b (dxdiag now shows I have DirectX 9.0b 4.09.0000.0902) . Followed the directions and reloaded the game, but same results of either the above screen or a complete re-boot.

The only thing new on my system was a run through of the free MS Security Update CD. From what I remember it found no missing or needed updates.

Can anyone speculate on this?

P.S. The only other noticed change in the system has been an annoying quirk in Alcohol120%; used to be when I first set a disk image to be mounted on a virtual drive the program mounting up would kick right in, now it doesn't.

I haven't seen it but how up to date are the Vid drivers?

Can you uninstall the Security Pack via control panel Change or Remove programs and see if it sets things right?

Uh-oh. This isn't a SFC3 specific problem. Just noticed Trainz (very graphics intensive) is screwed-up too. Gonna move this over to hot-topics.
