Wow, I was digging through some old computer files and found these from a computer game presentation I put together for Red Storm Entertainment back in 1997 and boy did it bring back some memories.
They couldn't do the game, of course, due to all the copyright issues. Still, I thought it was a nice concept at the time and you can definitely see the Wing Commander influences.
One of the models I did in 3DStudioMax, the venerable ol' Viper:

http://members.aol.com/jhaines3537/images/hudcyl.gifFor those that correctly point out that Vipers didn't have shields, this game would have been set some time shortly after the end of the original television series when the Galactica finds a system of humans with weak shield technology. They are already under attack, however, and though Galactica tries to help defend them, the survivors end up joining the rag-tag fleet on their way to find Earth.
Unfortunately, I picked the wrong time to take a job at Red Storm when their first release (Politica) bombed and both of the projects I was to start on were "indefinitely suspended" while the company did a "core focus realignment." One project was a Ghengis Kahn world conquest game and the other was this weird arena combat game set in post-WW3 Texas.
I ended up working for IBM doing electronic publishing for the next year, but then ended up being laid off (along with my entire division) from that job as well.
Almost took a job with Westwood Studios at one point, but decided to stay in publishing where I have been doing very well ever since. Still... there are always those days I wonder what it would be like to have "lived the dream."
