Help! Need Help with SFC2!
« on: May 02, 2004, 10:08:17 am »
I just installed SFC2 again and patcherd with the most recent patch. Whenever I start the game it shows the intro movie. Then ti flashes a couple of times and throws me back to the desktop. Any ideas?

Well I uninstalled the game and re-installed. I then tried to play it without any patch at all and it did the same thing.

System Specs:

Win 98SE
600mhz AMD Athlon
224 Megs RAM
Video: NVidia RIVA TNT 2 Model 64 Pro (32megs)
Sound: Creative SB Live! Value

Any ideas?

Link to StarFleet2.exe to bypass the intro movie (my current patch level is 2.0.3.6).

Well, it'll play in software made, but it freezes on exit and I get no sound. It is currently unpatched straight off CD.

Nope. I've never had this problem before, but this is a machine I got from a friend of mine. First time I've tried SFC on it.

Turn off every unnecessary application running in the background and only have Explorer and Systray running and see if it still does it. If it does it probably is a video card or driver issue.

I just push the escape button to bye pass the movie and intro. It is when I first start seeing the Paramount stars going around then I push escape.IKV Nemesis is right the 2036 is right latest patch.I hate to tell you this but you are going to have to uninstall the game delete game folder. Then reinstall the game say no to direct x and game spy. When you are fineshed you can patch up to 2036 only. The site where you can optian the patch is at www.sfcx.org click on down loads and look for SFC2 click on it and look for the patch you need if you live in North America patch up with US version.I hope you do not down load the server patch just the 2036 patch. You  can click on the link above and down load it from here. I hope this helps.

However that still loads the software to display the intro movie which can cause problems.  Linking to the altenate excecutable that I indicated avoids loading the movie software entirely.

Uninstall SFC EAW

delete the Starfleet Command II game folder

reinstall Starfleet Command II EAW

Patch to 2036 using the correct patch for your region

delete the desktop shortcut

go into your Starfleet Command II game folder and find the starfleet2.exe game file

right click on the file and select COPY

go to an empty spot on your desktop and select PASTE SHORTCUT

now lauch Starfleet Command II EAW from this new shortcut.

I think you will find your CTD probles to be over.

Problem solved. It was the graphics card. I just went and bought a new one and the game works fine. no problems at all. Just loaded from CD and patched to current.
