After over a year of silence on the future of the STAR TREK feature film franchise, producer Rick Berman has finally dropped the first hints of a new theatrical project for the franchise. The news comes in the new issue of Dreamwatch magazine, just coming out in the UK.

Speaking in issue #117, Berman confirms for the first time that he is now developing a STAR TREK feature film project: "I am involved in the very early stages of what could be the next STAR TREK movie," reveals Berman, in an excerpt provided by Dreamwatch. "It's something I will be producing with two other producers."

Unwilling to offer many details he cryptically describes it as "a prequel" without any further elaboration. The names of his producing cohorts will have to remain unknown for now, as well. This follows a report earlier this week from Dark Horizons that Paramount may be working on a project the site described as "Starfleet Command." Coincidentially, former TREK producer Harve Bennett (STAR TREKs II-VI) revealed recently that several years ago he had pitched a Starfleet Academy-based STAR TREK movie concept.

On the television front, while the future of their first series remains in limbo, Berman confirms that he is developing a non-STAR TREK sci-fi series with partner Brannon Braga. Both Berman and Braga have development deals with Paramount. If a new series begins development in earnest, TrekWeb insiders suggest Berman and/or Braga might take a reduced role in a fourth season of ENTERPRISE, though this is entirely speculation.

For the full interview and much more, check out issue #117 of Dreamwatch magazine in the United Kingdom.

SFC the movie?

cool.

I wonder what time period it'll be based off of?  Anything but Enterprise, please!

If It is Enterprise, I hope It's the Romulan /Federation war. But outside of that any other era would be great.

The title kind of implies that.  I'll dig around for the DH link about it.

I remember when Harve Bennett proposed that Academy movie. It would have been an all new cast. At the time everyone opposed it, and there was a letter writing campaign to Paramount to kill it. I remember writing a letter about it myself. I think it was planned to be Star Trek V, but it was eventually rejected due to the letter writing campaign.

Actually, it was for VI.  If you look at one of the documentaries on the special edition DVD for VI, it shows some concept art for the film, including a young Kirk lounging in his cadet's quarters wearing a cowboy hat and Spock with shoulder length hair.

As for SFC: The Motion Picture ( ), here's the original story that referenced it.  I'll pull out the exact quote for everyone:

Quote:

Seeking Writers: "Pro Nanny, "Au Pair", "Paranoia", "Star Fleet Command", "Stranger in a Strangeland", "Homeland Security", Peter Weir's "War Magician", Tony Scott's "Warriors" and an untitled Johnny Knoxville project

Not much, nor does it specifically say that it's a Trek film, but it's something.

Maybe it'll be about a bunch of online gamers who also scribble all over some bulletin boards that have animated smilies.  Maybe they'll dramatize the drama we've had over the last couple of years.  Maybe it'll be given a second title, "Flame Wars".

And some Fed cast member has to, at least once, yell, "We're the frickin' good guys"

Someone needs to chuck rolling pins around...

Someone needs to go moo...

Someone needs to have their catch phrase be stfu

And there needs to be a guest feline privateer who helms the Riverboat Casino.

I know I missed something

I summon the winged dragon of...ah, hell, wrong universe.

/rack me, i'm out (of my mind that is...)

The film is already doomed to failure. They can't even get the title correct. It's Starfleet Command.

Sheesh, these h'wood types are such bozo butts.

Best,

It was written by one of the Hollywood trade papers, not Paramount.

A movie about the Earth/Romulan War, SFB General War, ISC Invasion, or Andromedan Invasion would be neat!

I agree if they lost the NX-01, Archers Crew, the whole Enterprise time line and invalid tech, and went back with TOS standards.. or pre-TOS according to Gene Roddenberry, aka, Deadelous Class Starship (original Enterprise before the NCC-1701), Lasers for side arms, below warp 5 travel, Klingon homeworld at a proper distance from Earth, aka weeks to reach at warp 4... he had all this written out prior to his passing away.

They wouldn't have to kill off the crew, just refit the Enterprise.  Well ok maybe they would have to make another Enterprise but I actually like the crew.  Heck I'm even starting to like T' Pol.

I actually quite like what they are doing with the recent series of Enterprise (not finished over here in the UK). And all this talk of invalid time lines and tech is a little silly, each new generation of shows has its own set of rule breakers. I do wish they would make one all killer consolodating series that would satisfy the general public and the ST hard core though.

Considering all this temporal war stuff, its not too far fetched that they could 'fix' (and I use that word liberaly) the time line and make everyone happy. For me, I just enjoy the shows and hope they continue to make them along with more movies. Go Star Trek

Oops, forgot to comment on the original post. I'd love to see Shatner back in his more mature role (later movies were brilliant with him), he's a real icon for Star Trek and probably has a fair whack of commercial viability left.

There is one way to make all  this time temporal stuff go away.Archer has a bad dream that is all and this did not take place. It is like when Bobby Ewing got killed in a car accident and Pamela lived without him for a hole season after that he returned and it was one big dream for Pamela when Bobby showed up in the shower and freaked her right out. This only way they can do to clear this up make it a dream season. What do you think people.

The Bobby and Pamela Ewing dream occured on the show Dallas for those who can't remember or were not around.I personally liked JR Ewing that Devious and Manipulating person that is what I would be like if I were him living in a grand lifestyle.
