i just went into program files in c drive, activision, sfc3 and then found SFC3 icon but in properties there is just "General" and "version" tab, no compatibility

i right clicked on the SFC3 icon and selected properties and all there is, is a verion tab and a general one. no options

Yes, well that explains a few things.

There is a thread stuck at the top of this forum regarding the latest patch and there is some useful info therein regarding the solving/avoidance of common problems.

I had to look twice to find the important link:

Some mouse software may cause game to crash. Go to Start button, click RUN, type in MSCONFIG. In pop up box, click Start-up tab, uncheck any mouse software listed (your mouse will still work fine) and uncheck any other programs that you absolutely do not need when your system starts. Click OK and allow system to restart.

still doesnt work
the thing i want to try is to disable the image thing from the capatilbility tab but it doesnt show up in properties, all there is, is a general tab and a version tab.
im gonna download directx 9.0b relist 35mb gonna take ages (3hrs) on 56k and try reinstalling directx 9.0b.
hopefully it'll work

If you see no compatibility tab...

Then you're probably not running Windows XP.

post a Direct X report in the Starfleet Command 3 BETA bug reports forum.. this way we can take a look ar your system devices and Direct x components...

also describe exactly when the game stops working... IE, on loading screen, on playing movie, before mission launches...

Also i the SFC 3 game folder there is a file that logs error reports.. please post this file as well..

Ok here's where I am:

I got the patches Dirext X, andthe patches installed but the flipping game says Insert CD which is already there and no joy!

The build number 1.01 531 appears in the lower right hand corner

The Run this program settings are also where they should be and still no joy.

Go into Regedit (Start->Run, type in Regedit, click OK

go to :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Activision\Star Trek Starfleet Command III

make sure that where it says CD that the Dirve letter is correct.. if not, then right click, select Modify and enter the correct drive letter...

Drive letter should be by default

D:

no slashes.

also make sure yor install patch is correct..

as such the default is :

InstallPath C:\PROGRA~1\ACTIVI~1\Sfc3

also make sure your install drive is the same as the CD drive

also check to make sure that the Version is 1.01, if it is not, you skipped installing the SFC 3 v500 patch.

Hero, you may want to go to the NVidia web site and look in their Driver Archive and step down a driver version or 2 and see if the game works...

Hardware accelerated Direct3D 9+ is not available because the display driver does not support it. You may be able to get a newer driver from the hardware manufacturer.

well the game always comes up with this error right after the intro where picard talking in it. but just a sec ago when i tried it again it came up with a message saying something about it will be very slow then loaded the first screen where u select the mode u want to play, e.g. single, multi etc i then selected single and it didnt work again.
i think it must be coz i need a new driver for my graphics card, as the error report says at the top.

it then crashed.

As stated on the box cover and in the readme.rtf file found in you SFC3\Docs\help folder :

Your video card may not be able to support the game.. I would suggest finding a cheap Geforce 4 or FX card and replacing the one that you have.

Voodoo cards are not 100% Direct X 8.1 compliant.
