Galaxy News Flash--Hydrans/Feds agree to swapping technology
« on: April 30, 2004, 03:14:08 pm »
While the Hydrans still do not belong to the Federation, they have always been on reasonable terms with it.  Both Hydrans and the Federation have encountered the Borg, as a result they have agreed to unify there efforts to resist future Borg encounters by sharing ship building technology. Engineers from both parties will participate in the construction of an advanced CL class.  It well feature warp drive technology from the Defiant, as well as hull and deflector technolgy from the Hydrans. With impulse engines being a collabrative effort between both sides.

The prototype ship for the Hydrans will be named the HMS Hunter. For the Feds, it will be called the U.S.S. Talisman. The hull will be very similar in both versions with some unique aspects to both. Each will have the traditional TNG colors of there
respective race slots. The HMS Hunter will be completed 1st and appear in my Hydran TNG developement thread when released.  The U.S.S. Talisman will have its own seperate release thread probably in 3-4 weeks.

Preview of the new tech. Ever wonder what happens when a FED deflector fails? The ship can't go at warp until its repaired. Well the  TNG Hydrans have a deflector system that is made up of smaller individual deflectors that are focused together, much like the rays of light in a reflector telescope. If a few of these "deflector beam rods" are damaged, The remaining functional ones can be refocused to compensate while the damaged ones are repaired while still at warp drive.
A computer also aids by detecting debri at warp speeds and realigning the rods for maximum effect on any obstacles.

Yes you already know about the Defiant warp drive. However this is the 2nd generation of that drive type. But I ca'nt go into any details as it hasn't been declassified yet.

It is also hoped that this show of trust strengthens the growing alliance between the Federation and the Hydrans. Perhaps laying the ground work for the Hydrans to one day join the Federation.

Here is a preview of the Hydran version. After seeing it farther along. I may bump it to a DD class, instead of a CL. Seeing as It doesn't have any real distinguisable weapon platforms. Part of the trouble of doing it for SFC3 is there is no hellbores.
I have added my other Hydrans to the Klingon slots but they could also be put in with the Feds.  The tailfins are meant to have maneuvering thrusters at the ends.  I want to see about adding pin striping perhaps.

If someone wants to texture this as a FED contact me at red_green99@hotmail.com    or post here but I will be on vacation for a week or so.

I am having reservations about releasing the Hydran version. Its kind of my baby. I spent more time than I have on other ships lately and still intend to beef up the textures some. I kinda feel that the Hydran version would disappear into the GMV
(Great Model Void)  Though a Fed version would go over better.  Personally I may replace the Feds with my Hydrans. To include sounds and voices. I am sick of Feds. Fed this and Fed that. I am fedded out

The previous Hydrans I released have the d/l links in this thread. Just scroll doen about 2/3 towards the bottom.

Hey Red check this one out.......

 Manta Class Battlecruiser

Something about it just reminded me of the Hydrans, and I think it's a pretty cool ship and not a bad place to start idea wise for a Hydran/Fed hybrid ship.

Just got back from vacation 3 days ago.  hmm not a bad little ship.  As far as the HUnter goes. I am trying a rework. I changed the shape of the front end. Fanned it out a bit using the existing polies. I am only at 2200 polies and my goal is 4000 max. So I can still add alot of detailing. Though so far the stuff I add seems to clutter it up.  I still have not decided between dd or cl class. So maybe I will do 2 varients.  It would be cool if i had a better pic host with no band width limit. Then I could just put up some varients and let you guys give feedback. That woulkd speed things up I think.

Here is the latest rework. Say how do Hydrans designate refits?  For example: Romulans use MK1, MK2, MK3. What would a Hydran use HM1 ?  I have at least 6 versions based on this hull type.   btw this latest version has 4000 polies.

Damn dude, that rocks!! If you want to send me the pics for the different versions, I can upload to my site and send you the links, that way we can help you decide on 'em. BTW, I didn't forget about the render...trying to come up with a complimentary background...so far, the best looking render has been with a plain black background.

No problem on the render. I forgot about it    I could see where the Hydran colors might make picking a background difficult. I forgot your email address. I lost my original account cause I didn't use it over 30 days. So all my contact list is gone     For some reason I forgot I used to cut and paste a bunch of WIP into 1 pic. S anyway, here are 2 varients that preceeded the last version. What I might do is pick the 3 best and release them all, cause I cant decide between them

These screens are from milkshape, nothing fancy just to give a peek at em.  I have a varient with external nacels that is significantly different to be a whole new class, thats coming later.

OK Final update pic befor release. It has more detail and 200 less polies

Though the nacels may go back as before because of a slight mesh error that I may not waste time sorting out.  It would be easier to redo the nacel but I spent lots of time already     The 2 versions being released will resemble this last pic and the 1st one a few posts earlier.  My Hydran shuttle is also based off of this, only stripped down so it has about 700 poligons, since you can't see that much detail anyway.

I thought they already did this considering Hydrans are useing Phasers.I wouldn't imageined they used them before partnering up with the Federation. There is no way the can use torpedoes.

MP-  On the 62 caddy fins. Sounds good- hehe.  (wait my Omen is the Hyran BB-its too late cause I think I gave it 57 fins Dam)Oh and I am anxious to get this out as I had a few ideas for other ships and want to get started on something new. There are a few minor things delaying this still. For one I notice that the tractor beam materializes in empty space. So I need to model some cross piece or something where the x,y and z axis meet.

Age. I seem to remember the Hydans had G2 phasers. But I wish SFC3 could have hellbores somehow (sigh) The main theme of this Hydran\Fed built ship is the nacels on this ship are intended to be based off the Defiant's.  The remainder of the ship is designed from a Hydran destroyer hull. This last ship is really nothing more then a weapons platform mounted on 2nd generation defiant Nacels. Since SFC3 has no Hellbores, I prefer putting these ships in Kliingon slots and using disrupters.

My thinking for this last ship as far as speccing goes. Is to make it almost as maneverable as a frigate, but with a DD hull and CL hardpoints. With weapons mass, hull mass and shield mass, halfway between the stock DD and stock CL. Giving it extra mines but only half the crew and 1 shuttle to account for so much of the hull being made up of weapons platforms.
Cost wise it would be as expensive as the stock CL or perhaps slightly more to account for its speed and maneverbility.

I got the polies 500 below my goal of 4000. So I can experiment with added more detail. Though sometimes added stuff takes away from the design. btw I love destroyers. I think playing destroyer can be the funnest part of the game.

Pasting this for future projects.
