While the Hydrans still do not belong to the Federation, they have always been on reasonable terms with it. Both Hydrans and the Federation have encountered the Borg, as a result they have agreed to unify there efforts to resist future Borg encounters by sharing ship building technology. Engineers from both parties will participate in the construction of an advanced CL class. It well feature warp drive technology from the Defiant, as well as hull and deflector technolgy from the Hydrans. With impulse engines being a collabrative effort between both sides.
The prototype ship for the Hydrans will be named the HMS Hunter. For the Feds, it will be called the U.S.S. Talisman. The hull will be very similar in both versions with some unique aspects to both. Each will have the traditional TNG colors of there
respective race slots. The HMS Hunter will be completed 1st and appear in my Hydran TNG developement thread when released. The U.S.S. Talisman will have its own seperate release thread probably in 3-4 weeks.
Preview of the new tech. Ever wonder what happens when a FED deflector fails? The ship can't go at warp until its repaired. Well the TNG Hydrans have a deflector system that is made up of smaller individual deflectors that are focused together, much like the rays of light in a reflector telescope. If a few of these "deflector beam rods" are damaged, The remaining functional ones can be refocused to compensate while the damaged ones are repaired while still at warp drive.
A computer also aids by detecting debri at warp speeds and realigning the rods for maximum effect on any obstacles.
Yes you already know about the Defiant warp drive. However this is the 2nd generation of that drive type. But I ca'nt go into any details as it hasn't been declassified yet.
It is also hoped that this show of trust strengthens the growing alliance between the Federation and the Hydrans. Perhaps laying the ground work for the Hydrans to one day join the Federation.
