Topic: **small update**....Chandley Works Officially Open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes people I can confirm that as of today (29th April 2004) my website is finally open... That's the good news... The bad news is there's not a lot new on it.  I haven't done much modelling of late but what I've so far is there for all to see now... To quote my very own News page I have the following available......

Not bad.  Chandley-class Ships, especially Kalibanized like you did, are beautiful.  But I'm starting to believe Khaliban a bit on the physics involved on this type of ship... But at least it looks cool as eyecandy. However I wouldn't want to command a Chandley, I'm sticking with the Constitution-class refit or Excelsior, the originals and best.

But again, you do some good work!  I'm not downplaying it one bit, they're beauties at the very least!

Love your site, definitely going to be on my links page.  I have a question I have bbeen meaning to ask.  You have 3 versions of you ships, the 2048, 1024 and the 1024 with 8-bit palette waht is the difference beetween the last two?

Awesome site. All the ships and pics are there like every site should have them along with a description of each ship and our choice of texture sizes. Do we get a choice of custom colors for the interrior? Its very well laid out for the model junkie. Other sites should take notice.

Oh, and Chris, that Chandley would whoop Connie ass any day of the week.

To clarify this one you need to look at how big the model is complete with it's textures as it is this that your graphics card throws around when you're playing the game.....

The 2048 versions typically weigh in at a whopping 41.3 meg on average which can put quite a strain on some graphics cards... Dropping this down to 1024 (and it's only TWO bitmaps we're talking about - Fca_1_5 and Fca_1_5i) reduces the model down to 23.2 meg... A big reduction... Using a 8bit (256 colour) pallete instead of a 24bit one reduces this even further, down to 9.3 meg. Your hardworking graphics card still has to throw the ship geometry around as that doesn't change but using smaller size bitmaps and lower colour depth will help.....

To give you an idea on my old machine, which was a little limited spec-wise, I converted my entire ship folder to an 8 bit pallete and got the game to run a lot smoother... My new PC doesn't have the same limitations but I'm mindfull of the fact that not everyone out there has bought a new PC in the last six months, hence the three different versions.....
