Did you completely uninstall SFC OP off your machine???

you have to use the Uninstall option and then delete the game folder off of your system.. the problem is previously saved games.. they are not compatable between build versions..

try deleting the entire Orion Pirates game directory, reinstall, then use the v2552 game patch or the OP Enhancement Package v1.04 (OP Enhancement Package stickied to top of the D2 forum)

also, delete the OP shortcut off your desktop after you reinstall.. go into yor Orion Pirates game directory, find the StarfleetOP.exe file, right click and select Copy... Put your mouse on your desktop and right click and select Paste Shortcut.. this will eliminate a small shortcut problem that the default install sometimes creates..

Existing Saved Games (including autosaves) will crash.

Delete everything in C:\\Prog Files\...\Starfleet Orion Pirates\metaassets\db\.

(Pestalences' way will also work, tho it's a bit of an overkill IMHO)

I state to delete the entire game off the system in the event that they tried to patch v2552 on top of a pre-existing patch.. such as the 2501g patch from Interplay.. this will cause game to CTD or just corrupt game files...

not knowing how they patched their game and / or not knowing if they used a previous patch... I err on the side of caution and go for the safest, most effective course of action, though it may be overkill.. I know it will work..

however if the game is just installed or has been in operation without using any other patch except v2552, then I would concur with Pi in this matter.. deletion of the DB folder content would be the simplest course of action.. however if you have used a different patch before using the v2552, then you need to reinstall the game and delete the game directory for Orion Pirates...

Actually it's probably the movies. Point the icon at StarFleetOP.exe to skip the movies and fill in the Start In directory information.

Cleven, I think you have OP mixed up with EAW.

OP does not have an opening movie.. the desktop shortcut put of box points to StarfleetOP.exe, not SFCOP.exe

due to a glitch in the patching process.. the desktop shortcut can get fubarred in OP, as such, shuttles and fighters could not be seen or used in game..

however, launching the Starfleet OP.exe file directly, or creating a new shortcut for your desktop from the StarfleetOP.exe fixes this issue..

Now on EAW, on install it points to SFC2.exe, which does play the movies.. and that will cause the game to crash when in loading screen...

however, removing that shortcut and making a new shortcut directly off of the Starfleet2.exe file corrects this problem or launching Stafleet2.exe directly will fix the problem.

The problem the first poster is having is either :

a) patched on top of an earlier OP Patch, most likely v2501g from the Interplay web site

or

b) Forgot to remove the save games files out of the Stock OP game

the best course of action is to uninstall, delete the OP game directory, reinstall SFC OP (say no to Direct x 8), patch using SFC  OP Patch v2500-2552, then remake his shortcut to StarfleetOP.exe

On the contrary OP DOES HAVE opening movies (yes, those moving picture things with the Taldren and Paramount logos) if you use the SFCOP.exe to start with as it was in the beginning. If it wasn't for the incompatibility of the movie player with newer OS's people would still use it to start the game instead of now using starfleetop.exe and having to enter the correct Start In info. I first encountered this crash in both OP and EAW after upgrading to XP. Changing both to the main exe fixed this movie related problem in both games.

But because this is a single player problem I will agree with Firesoul and mark it down to old campaign files.
