Questions about patching
« on: April 27, 2004, 08:47:02 pm »
Okay, I want to have two installations of SFC3- one with the latest patch, and the other with the build 500 patch for current mods.

However, I've seen is shown in the instructions to download DirectX 9.0b.

So my two questions:

1) Is DirectX 9.0b required for the 531 patch?

2) If I install DirectX 9.0b, will the installation with the build 500 patch still work?

Thanks!

Both Build v500 and Build v531 are both Direct x 9.0b compliant.. they contain the Direct X 9 fix already built in them.

Only out of box game v464 has a problem with Direct X 9.0b and crashes to desktop after the movies play., this is fixed (ONLY if not using a patch above) with the SFC 3 Direct X fix patch.

SFC 3 Direct X Fix Patch will corrupt v500 and v531 if you install it at all to the game.

also people who are using Direct X 8.1 will cause game instability or drops in missions as Direct x 8.1 is not compatable at all in Direct Play with Direct X 9...

also Direct X 9.0a is not compatible with Direct X 9.0b in Direct Play..

this was stated on the Microsoft web site...

if you have been playing using versions of Direct X earlier than Direct X 9.0b, More than likely you are the one causing the drops and lag in Multi-Player missions against others... (not counting shuttles)

hope that this helps

Very cool.  I've been worried to upgrade to B from A since I wasn't sure if my unpatched game would still work.  Thanks, I'll install B and the patch right away.
