Nemesis, good luck with the convention, although I doubt Ed would be offended by an autograph. I still recall a convention up at Tulsa where Bill shatner recieved proceeds from $100 tickets in order to maybe get his autograph , But he was only signing for an hour.

My sister did get her book signed (not personally, the daughter of a friend took it over).  She also suggested (at my sister's urging) that he include a phrase made "famous" by my character in a future book and apparently made note of it.  It's not as amusing out of context but if you read a Greenwood novel and a character says "trust me, I'm a Bard" that's it.  (My PC was lying he lied a lot ).

I left before Greenwood showed up.  My sister may speak with him tomorrow (she works for the shows operator).

I used to play D & D back in my teenage day, along with Traveller (what's the difference between Traveller and MegaTraveller?) plus Villians and Vigilanties. My character used to be Prism, different power for each color of the spectrum. I don't remember the powers, lost the character sheet. I don't actively game now but I like Yu-Gi-Oh because of the D & D feel to it. Just bought the Battlecity finals Part I off the net from E-Bay, the Japanese version kicks butt over the tame US watered down version. You also get an intertesting language lesson in how things are translated from Japanese to English. I'm typing this with my +10 wireless keyboard

I never was able to try Traveller, non SciFi oriented friends , they liked Trek but that was all.  I did play Chill (one game only as a player without reading the rules) and Marvel Super Heroes for a while.

I liked the flexibility of the Marvel system.  It allowed creative behaviour that truely mimiced the way the comic heros worked.

D&D turns 30

I recently began DMing a 3rd Edition game for some friends after years of not playing.  After battling skunks and dire skunks they say I am still a D(emented)M(onster).

I have probably thousands of dollars in original printing first addition manuals and modules through the latest addtion. Two foot lockers and three book shelves. Not only D&D but a host of other RPGs as well. Arduin Grimoire, GURPS, Shadowrun, megatraveller, Ninjas and Superspies, BattleTech some palladium games but not rifts, many fragments from other systems. Recently got the d20 modern core rulebooks even though I have not had a group to play with in 14 years.

Sounds familiar.  I hadn't played in about 7 years when I started DMing the current 3rd Edition campaign (by popular demand) .

We are just wrapping up the first adventure.  I am about to give them a very easy 2nd adventure.  If of course they realize how to do it the easy way otherwise they could have problems .  The 3rd adventure adds another PC (the 4th) and possibly a 5th PC as well as more complexity and lays the groundwork for the beginning of the main campaign.

I always felt stupid buying the books with no active gaming life but They are irresistable. Though with the prices they are asking today it is a little easier to resist.

jerry, would you mind me Grabbing a scan of some of that old stuff. I have an extra copy of the 3.0 AD&D core books, although It's up to 3.5 know, but you can have them.

I'm particularly interested in the old Bloodstone series. H1-4, or If you have a copy of the Dieties & Demigod's with Cthulu that I could copy the stats from It would be much appreciated.

BTW, Did you ever play Chill? That was one great game in my old old group. The game came out about the same time as silence of the Lambs, and they ran across three threats. Wearwolves in the artic, a serial killer making himself out to be a Ghoul, and My best was poppets and there queen ( for lack of a better word) as they drove outside of town, they Hit a small child with there car, only to find out It was a maniquin.

I still get compliments on that, as It made them really feel something.

Most of my SFB stuff was acquired that way, then I began playing again.  Then after I stopped again, SFC came out, my old SFB opponents are now my SFC LAN opponents.   That SFB knowledge filed away in helps immensely at times.   Only thing is that if I get a D7L in a battlefest no matter what the situation they team up on me, they know how well I know that ship and don't wish to let me use  that against them .

I will be going to a "convention" this weekend where used games stuff will be on sale.  Might make some purchases.  Mostly if I use a premade D&D adventure it is substantially changed because I adapt it to my current plans and then adlib as things come up (which is how they had skunk troubles in the current campaign ).

I am told Ed Greenwood will be at the convention.  I am not one for celebrity worship myself but I know people who are excited by this.  My sister asked me to get a book autographed for her, I told her Greenwood has probably heard that "it's not for me, its for my sister" way too many times, so she is getting a friend to do it .  I so hate standing in lines.

I can help with the Dieties and Demigods it not only has Cthulu but Melnibonean (Elric and Stormbringer/ Eternal Champion) mythos. I have it. Those were taken out after copyright lawsuit threats by the estates of the source materials authors. I do not have H1-H4. modules. I have a ton but not all of the classics ones. Also someone "borrowed" my fiend folio.  My remaining first edition DM manual is in poor shape. My good copy was also borrowed. The same for my second edition players guide. "borrowed" again.

I never played chill. I played a couple of call of cthulu campaigns on the serious side and paranoia on the light hearted side as well as having but not playing the Vampire, werewolf, mage and enchanted series of source books. I have every WEG starwars source book ever made except "the courtship of princess Lia". There are more of them than all D&D source books combined.

Thanks Jerry I apprecate that. I'll buy a scanner then on Thursday, and get It set up.

I also still have your 3 books you loaned me. + a few others you might like to give a good read through.

BTW, would you like me to have a Brunch prepared on this Saturday? I would be more then happy to do so.  It's a long drive to Texas after all.

anywho, We need to someday spend an afternoon pooling our resources and Putting things on a disk. I just found out that a DVD burner is at the $100.00 price range, so I'll be grabbing one this next month. It would be great to share our reads.  BTw do you have a copy of the AD&D Dragon Magizine cd set?

If not I have an extra copy for you. It uses adobe of course, and has a great search engine. I believe Dash Jones first told me about It.

Nemisis, good luck with the convention, although I doubt Ed would be offended by an autograph. I still recall a convention up at Tulsa where Bill shatner recieved proceeds from $100 tickets in order to maybe get his autograph , But he was only signing for an hour.

So If Ed gives you any trouble, Just say this.

You....

are a better....

Man....

then Bill, and because of that...

You must sign ....

This book...

If not ( insert some tech garbage, and allow spock to interfere.)

I downloaded a bunch of stuff from TSR before they began selling old things in PDF format.  The H-Series might be there.  IF I can find them.  I have 240GB of HD space spread over 4 computers to search.  Can't do it now as I am way overdue for some sleep.  If I find it I will let  you know.  I darn well better have all those downloads.

As to the Greenwood thing, I HATE standing in line.  Comes from the perfume allergy, it can be literally sickening with the wrong people nearby.

EDIT:  I checked and I have H-4 as a series of .gifs and an .rtf file.  Zipped it is 2.7MB.  If you want it, I can arrange to E-Mail it to you Tuesday evening.

Yeah my game is so eclectic that we never know when a romulan scout will show up and take them on a space trip where they accidentlaly end up in the starwars universe in a star trek ship while being fantasy characters. It happened one time. other than that it is pure chaos.

Oh please do, I tried along time ago to make a NWN campaign based on those games, and would very much like to try It again at your convinience.

Thanks too both of you, and If I can ever help either of you with source material Please let me know.

BTW Storm, you mentioned Shadowrun. If you could bring that material also, I'd be eternally in your debt.
