The "boyo" is what made me look in here.
It's used a bit here in carmarthenshire/Llanelli. Though a lot more in Swansea.
At 17 your free to have sex etc and at 18 can drink(UK). It's obvious you respect your parents a lot for someone your age, but you are at an age where you should decide what's safe and right.
I guess you will find the correct thing regardless.

I don't think I have Welsh in my direct family, though I have heard the word used.  I must admit I don't know where anyone picked it up or it's origins specifically.

I get a pretty hefty allowance (I've said it once or twice on the forums, but I don't like to brag), which makes me pretty hesitant to do anything that might make it go away.  In all likelyhood I'll be working for my father when I go to work, and if I'm unfortunate/lucky he'll put me into the international business arena.

The hope is to end up in Law school and then work with him with a good knowledge of international law.

But Dash, your parents seem to have it all planned out for you what they want you to do.
consider this ,What do you want to do?

I speak from experience in choosing a line of work my father pushed me into i.e. Electronics.
I am about to give it all up and do what I have wanted to do all my life......Archaeology

Been off the boards a little bit, parents decided to come get me, then visit with relatives.  With my aunt for a little bit (she's taking an interest in Taldren believe it or not!) but if my parents have their way, I might not be on the boards all that much for a little while.  They're a little tight about how much time I spend on the computer, and especially limiting about where I go on the internet.

Depends on when my parents wish to take off back across the ocean as to when I'm going to be heavily restricted on access.

So here's the question...

How many of you have parents that restrictive...Or seeing that this is Taldren, ARE parents that wish to see everything that your child is doing on the internet, to the point of actually making it hard for them to go to places...such as these boards even?!

Oh yes, and how many of you check your child's email to see what type of things the child is recieving?

Dash you're almost 18 aren't you? I thought we were around the same age...I'm 18 now, BTW.  What you need to do, and I stress that you do so politely is introduce your parents to places like these boards.  You won't find a better, safer place than in the Taldren forums. And thats the truth.

I was thinking the same thing. Heck even us older peeps here have been impressed with you for along time now. Tell your parents to come and take a look at your post's. They have nothing but pride to see from you here.

I'll be 18 in under a year!

Unfortunately my parents are still very paranoid.  It doesn't help that I'm a slave to their money (aka my allowance) and their 'doting' attitudes of watchfulness.  I've tried to introduce them to these boards, but my Mother doesn't have an interest, and my Father says he has other things that are more important to do.  Personally I think he's a workaholic.

Get a job, na na na na, na na na na na, Get a Job!  (Rent your own pad, buy your own computer, get your own connection...)

I can respect your parent's concerns, though personally I feel that television is a far greater threat to people's morals and view of the world.

I kind of view this in a "Teach a man to fish..." fashion.

If your mother says she isnt interested and your dad is saying hes to busy, ask them how serious they are about keeping you safe on the internet. If they wont let you show them a trusted site, ask them how they honestly plan to define what sites you should be allowed on or not.
Apart from that, I can understand why you wouldnt be getting a job (if your still in school/ college), if youve finished with your studies, I would say start job hunting. If you think you can handle it with your studies get a part time job, might not be the most money but it will allow you a bit more freedom and responsibility from you parents.

Hope some of that helps.

P.S.
Completely irrelevant, but do you have any welsh family? "Boyo" is an extremely widely used word about 20 miles north from me, its used in nearly every other sentence up there. Anyway, just curious, you should hear that word in an extremeley welshy accent....quite amusing.
