As far as I know there is not one for GMAX or LightWave. Just 3DMax and Milkshape have them.

There is a 3ds plugin for Gmax to import 3ds files. I'm pretty sure though that you can only export max files though.

Can you save a MAX file? if so then you could model in gmax then give the gmax file to a max user to export to *.mod....

gmax seems to be the program of choice for modeling for the MS flight sim series.......

Didn't someone make a utility that would take a GMAX file and change it into a .mod, by way of going through a couple of other formats and programs.  It sounded at the time like it was more trouble than it was worth, but for those without access to any 3d modelling program it seems like the way.  Isn't milkshape like 20 bucks or something?  I'd say if you really have an interest give that a try.

That's about right and you can only buy it online with a credit card or check

I'll see if I still have the tutorial I made, about 1 1/2 years go, on how to get a gmax model into SFC. It was a long tedious process, but might be shorter if you only want to whip up a few meshes to finish up in max later.

I wanted the ability to work on ships during my lunchbreak at work. Not enough hours in the day otherwise...

I was checking the sights for GMAX and Milkshape earlier and saw that the both have plugins available for some of the same games. While GMAX doesn't support .mod files, you should be able to export out of GMAX into a format that milkshape can import in and then export it again in .mod format. That would make Milkshape a $20.00 plugin for GMAX.

Yep that's pretty much what I do since gmax is very limited in what it can export.  The only problem with this method is that you have to go back and adjust all the smoothing groups in milkshape and you can't create break models either in milkshape.
