TNG Hydran development and D/L links thread
« on: April 21, 2004, 10:36:23 pm »
The ship download links will always be in my last post near the bottom of this thread. I'd put them here for quick access, only after a period of time the original entry won't allow editing.  This is an ongoing project. Currently 3 Hydran ships are available. Many more to come.

Great looking Hydran, man. Poor Hydrans really do need someone to update them a bit. Thanks for doing them.

Thanks guys. Here is an update pic. My image host will be maxed soon so use the gallery link later on. Its a different site.
I really enjoy doing original stuff cause there is more leeway with design and textures= more fun. I just need to convert this for SFC3 now.

Another update. This ship now has twice as many polies as the original. I think its worth it as it is a battleship, thus wont be seen often.  I was hoping to have it ready tomorrow, but with the additional development maybe this weekend.

This ship shows my personal style perhaps more than any previous with the exception of my 1st ship ever, the USS Talisman.  Just to give you some background and my personal perspective on modeling. Modeling can be approached from 2 main angles. As art in new designs and textures, as a form of expression, or it can be approached from the science angle. Which I believe is more of reproducing already existing ships, such as the Galaxy class for example. Skill wise reproducing existing designs to exactly the original schematics may in fact be harder then doing up ones own design. Of course kitbashing involves both viewpoints. Myself, I lean towards designing my own, though I got away from that after getting so much resistance to my 1st ship, which in hindsight I should have referred to as a new race rather then pawning it off as a federation ship. So I did up a few ships from FASA and other designs, but from here on out it will be mostly new designs extrapolated from existing races. Mainly secondary races which don't get as many releases as Feds, Klinks and Roms.

Ugh- just though of something eles to add to this mesh    Might be a few days.

Its available for d/l. Clicking on the d/l link will also show a pic of the final version.  Worked into the wee hours and caught you all napping. It has 7500 poligons. But polys are not the whole  story. Its mapped to just 2 bitmaps and the file size is just over 2 meg.  No whining, its a nice ship and it has given me an idea for at leat 1 varient.

Thanks. Oh btw I prefer being called red or my 1st name Jim. Sir sounds um like I am old

I am developing a battle cruiser. Thinking of calling it it the Scorpian class as it reminds me of one. Though That name doesn't sound Hydran. I used to name Hydran's by the shiplist in OP but I don't have it installed now. If someone could copy and paste the Hydran ship names quick that would be awesome.

Well hope my Pic host holds out for the weekend.

Yup retro rocks.  I finished up the Stinger. So now there are 3 Hydrans finished.    My pic host crapped out but you can see a preview pic at each individual d/l link below. Again the poly caount for the Stinger is rather high at 6700. But load times are still reasonable on my 800 mhz with only 128MB of memory. Due to the fact I only use 2 bitmaps.

 Stinger d/l

 Defender d/l

 [ Omen d/l

Enjoy. These ships all appear in the Klingon slots. I'd like to put together a mod that has the Hydrans in there own race slot. Then they can have there own music and weapon textures if thats possible. I could use help with it as I don't know how to
go about it and I know it can be time intensive as well.  I like the Hydran colors. So many ships are green.

Hey its me again     I am putzing around with a mesh that used be be my Testament ship and now, well its evolving.
This is preliminary and needs some work. It also is a bit different. I notice that the Hydrans I did up before were similar to each other. I want to add some variety between the different ship classes. Its easy to get carried away though

Preveiw it in the link below. No name yet and sorry only 1 view of it. Comments welcome, I know sometimes I been touchy in the past but you can rip this 1 as I reaaly am not to sure about it.

new Hydran wip-perhaps a fast cruiser?

Thanks MP-I have a few more details to add to that one. Say the latest ship. The stinger only has 3 downloads. Maybe  some of you missed it over the weekend. I consider it the best of the 3 I put up. The pic shows an error on the strut, but that was corrected before I released. I just did'nt have a better sceen shot of it.

If all goes well, I will have 8 ships for the SFC3 Hydrans. Some will be updates to my original SFC2 versions, others will be comepletely new designs.

 Stinger Battle Cruiser

 Defender Frigate

  Omen Battleship

Update: The STCD mod site added a new Hydran catagory for SFC3. Coolness. So these ships will be seen there along with the new ones I am working on

Thanks, say what does R-G mean?

AS far as the projext goes.Depends on if it requires new textures. Seeing as it takes me a long time to build base textures from scratch. I'd prefer something where the base textures are mapped already to some extent. I'll be in and out of town for the next few weeks, so I wouldn't be able to work on it steady. Plus I promised my Hydran ships would get done so I need to finish those up 1st.

bbarr97, These ships will work in SFC2. Only the hard points are reversed. So the primaries become the heavies and visa versa. With Feds this may be an issue since we all know where the phaser mounts and photon tubes should be located.
With my Hydrans I think its not that much of an issue, seeing as the G2 phasers and Hellbores can go where ever I say as its a hypothytical design.

You may need to change the file name from say Stinger.MOD to Stinger.mod (note the mod in lower case in second file)
I am not certain but I believe one of the SFC games need the mod file in lower case. Perhaps that was SFC1.  Just try it as it is, if it doesn't work, rename it.  I can't test it, as I no longer have the game installed and my hard drive is too small to have all SFC versions loaded at once.

There are extra files that SFC2 does not need, but having them in the folder doesn't hurt anything.

Is 950 polies too high for a SFC3 shuttle?  Hope not cause I chopped off 2000 polies off a design without losing too much of the original shape. If I get it down too 400-500 though it loses a lot.  No pic, sorry my pic host wont be refreshed until May 1st. If I upload it for d/l, I will include a preview pic. Suffice it too say, this is not a typical stock "box" type shuttle

Here ia a finished pic of thr Hydran/Fed light cruiser Hybrid ship.   Need to convert to game and test. Release in a couple days.   The Fed textured version of this ship is coming much later.   The Warp drive tech is fron the Fed Defiant.
Those rods in front are Hydran deflector rods. (I need a better tech name for them  )

SDS it is then. Thanks Azel. If I include that in the ship description I will credit the name to you in the readme.

I just got back from vaction and am not in the model swing yet. But I will get back to these Hydrans in a few.

Yes by all means include them. Glad you like em.  I should have the latest 2 ships up in a couple days. Thinking that they will both be destroyers at this point as I have another ship to fill the CL role.  Great to hear that your updating your TNG mod. Looking forward to its release.

James,

I don't know why the fiddling with the firewall worked last time; it's not working this time.  As you said, you know my e-mail.  Could you send me the shuttle?

Funny though, the link for the Eclipse works, but from your other thread; could it be the way or locations they are linked to??

Thanks, and sorry!

E_Look I sent that ship a couple days ago. Let me know if you never got it. I think I deciphered your email correct.

Here is a wip pic of a mine layer I am making.  I started off thinking I was just going to do a version of the stock Hydran DD ship. Of course I thought it looked a bit plain for TNG era. Often the ship I am currently working on is my favorite. Simple cause its new to me and its like an empty canvas. This ship doesn't feel that way yet. Gets harder to  keep trying to top the  last one.

The idea behind this class will be to have no forward weapons. They all will be rear arcs. It will be  fast and nimble e with a DD hull. IT will have reinforced rear shields.  Increased hull size. Enough to have a level 3 tractor and 3 transporters. Equiped with level 3 thrusters. The whole idea is too overtake a ship from behind.  speed past drop anti matter mine, fire rear facing weapons and hightail it, then circle and repeat. This method will get you killed in SFC2, but in SFC3 is quite effective with a nimble ship.

See you all after the holiday

Red,

Nope.  After someone else having this problem too, I decided to make the addy easily readable again.  I just hope there isn't a more efficient spam driven address harvester lurking about these forums.

Thanks for the trouble.
