Hey folks,
I'm sitting here at home being rather bored and I thought I'de make a thread about our musical tastes. It may have been alluded to before, but I am a music freak and am always on the look out for new stuff to listen to. So with that in mind, I thought I'de ask for any suggestions and post a few of my own.
My tastes are a tad on the strange side, and I've been told by many of my friends that they do not recognize ninety percent of the 'crap' I listen to. I think it's good though, and if people would actually listen to it they may come to the same conclusion I have. And so it goes...
First off, The Weakerthans. This is by far my favorite band, and the lead singer (John K. Samson) is a bloody lyrical genius. I'm quite surprised they sprang from Winnipeg, but it seems that city is becoming quite the musical hub. I've provided two links, one to their labels site which has a few of their songs, the other to a solo session that Samson did for CBC3. From the first I'de suggest 'Plea From A Cat Named Virtue', which has lyrics written from the perspective of a cat and is quite clever. Anything from the second link is good, especially 'One Great City.'

They are based out of Montreal, and have a rather strange sound...but good none the less. 'Tuff Ghost,' 'Child Star,' and 'The Clap' are excellent tunes to check out on their site.
http://www.theunicorns.net/music/The Polyphonic Spree are the strangest band I'm going to mention. It's hard not to consider sixteen Texans in white robes singing ridiculously happy and catchy tunes strange. These guys are just pure energy, and seem like a bunch of hippies...but again, they are good and interesting.
http://www.thepolyphonicspree.com/main.htmlThe last band is one I've only started listening to recently. A friend of mine spent a semester in England (as I will this coming fall), and came across A Band Of Bees. It's kind of a jazz/folk/rock type vibe. Have a listen to 'A Minha Menina' and 'Punchbag,' and if you can find a copy 'Sky Holds The Sun.'
