Wow! Look what I found! - erikbethke.com
« on: April 21, 2004, 12:44:03 pm »
While doing some research on game development I ran across this little gem. http://www.erikbethke.com/  It is cool to see Erik promoting and blogging again.

I guess though what with Eriks busy schedule I egt the impression he hasn't had time to optimize the site yet. Anyone here wanna give him some constructive feedback?

For starters I would fix the upper-right-hand grahic-link so it sized properly and didn't read with the buttom half of the "B" blocked from view. I would also fix the code on one of the politics pages so that some of the html coding doen't display on the page.

Anyone else got some thoughts about the site? Desgn improvements, Navigation suggestions. Encountered problems? Anything?

I would say the top navigation bar needs to be spaced out a bit more between each selection. Apart from that I had fun flicking through.

Weird those:

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->

Are turdlings left over when I copy text out of Word and into Mozilla's editor.  FIXED

The B Comment?  Are you referring to the "B" link next to the news site?  It is supposed to be a link to a bMachine blogging script that I just trying to get to work.

I keep forgetting to try each and every page both in Explorer and Mozilla.

Thank you!

Any pictures of what a shrimp burger looks like?  Is it really all that tasty?

Where do you pick up Tuna Snacks in places other than Asia?  I've never heard of them, but apparantly they are very tasty and Mr. Bethke is a great fan of them.  Curious enough to try one or two now if I can find where they are stored.

How are they kept fresh?  The pictures seem to show them on a shelf.  Don't you need to refrigerate fish to keep it fresh?

Sorry, it's my ignorance, some interesting items in the latest updates on the site though.

WOW, one other item I found on the family portion.

I remember Mr. Bethke as having mucho long locks when he first started Taldren (or at least there was an interview with him having long hair), then some hair round the time of SFC2, and now...he seems to have shaved it all off!  From lots to none!

Nice family pictures.

On the photo section the pictures for Japan and Laguna Beach gave me messages of page not found.

Erik, if you're gonna change the words of a post of mine at least come close to reflecting what I wrote and the intent.

Since when have you been sensitive to *constructive* criticism?

I have found tuna snacks in Japanese supermarkets in Orange County, CA...

To make one, get seaweed paper, salt it, put some sticky rice inside and inside the rice put anything you think is tasty.  They have beef, pork, chicken, abd vegatable variations....

So what sort of stuff do you folks like at my site?  More photos?  more book reviews?  more blog? more politics?

I like the blogs talking about life in Korea a lot, it talks about a culture I haven't experienced, and it's fun to read.  I also enjoy the photos a lot.  Those would probably be my two favorite areas of your site.  Can't vouch for anyone else.  Thanks for the info on the Tuna Snacks, I'll try some out if I have the opportunity.

Eric read your comments about the HAN river. Glad to see its getting cleaned up.

20 years ago I was stationed in Korea and we were conducting a river crossing of the Han river. It was about 5am and as were were crossing we drew close to the shoreline I could see the rocks in the river bed below in the moon light.

So I ask the engineer steering the boat how deep was the water here. He replied about 1 foot or two.

So I decided its time to get out and pull the RB15 a shore so my guys could get out without getting wet.

Well about two feet turned into about 10 feet of water and I verifed a 200 pound Infantryman with 80 pounds of equipment will not float.

However I did learn that when jumping into water and there is snow on the ground in March a 200 pound GI can climb back in really fast.  Thank god for Gortex and thinsulight underwear or Hypothermia would have gotten me that day.

Land of the Morning calm. Not in winter it should be called Land of Frozen Cajones.

Actually I kinda like your Political stuff also Erik. I may not agree, But it has to be good for you to have a place to share your thoughts with the world, or even write them out in order to Reflect on Policies.

Another thing I was very impressed with was the use of your book in a college course. that has got to be one huge source of pride for you Bro.

I'll send you an email later about a few things you might be interested in.

Toasty,

All of the words in the post are yours.

The reason it said it was edited, is because I changed your post title to inlcude erikbethke.com when I made it sticky as a service to the people who are reading the C&R forum, so as to not wonder what the thread is about and open it up and realize it is about my site when they didn't want to go there...

Ok...my mea culpa then. I didn't realize I was that kind on first blush (the self editor at work again I guess).

Sometime you and I are gonna have to chew the fat about the dichotomy of a site's obvious use of capitalism as a pathway to promote communism.

Again, sorry for zinging you about the edit.

No problem Toasty,

I personally think we do not tell most of the people around us every day how much we enjoy each other... that is my way of thanking you for your positive note and hoping that you don't feel awkward having been positive.

As for capitalism vs. communism, I am at the same times a very idealistic person as well as a very pragmatic person.  I am a strong business person as well.  And I can play poker well.  Not all those that believe in everyone getting a fair shake are necessarily namsy-pasmy push overs! ;-)

To sum up my political theory succinctly - socialistic base coating, plus a shiny metallic gloss coat of capitalism.

Any of the pure systems have already proven to be broken and evil-serving, so the arguement that I can entertainment engagement on both sides of the economic poles should be expected in a forward-looking arena.

Reading Erich Fromm is very thought provoking.

Are turdlings left over when I copy text out of Word and into Mozilla's editor.  FIXED

The B Comment?  Are you referring to the "B" link next to the news site?  It is supposed to be a link to a bMachine blogging script that I just trying to get to work.

I keep forgetting to try each and every page both in Explorer and Mozilla.

Thank you!

Since you seem to be following at least some of the infamous SCO vs IBM debacle (nitpick: Baystar not Baypoint on your webpage) you might find the Groklaw page interesting.  It includes a LOT of info on that topic.

Changing my words  to reflect a sycophant's words is insulting. Is that what you want? A sychophant?
