Problems with CD KEY!
« on: April 20, 2004, 04:52:17 pm »
I just bought the game (SFC2) and after installing the game, it asks me for the ked key when I put in EXACTLY as it is on the jewel case, it then goes to tell me that the CD KEY is incorrect!!!! I already tried interplay support but they told me "Customer / Technical support is temporarily unavailable". So I turn here, can you guys please help me, I really want to play this game!

Did you buy Empires at War, or Orion Pirates?  And how many characters are in your CD key?  There was a bad bacth of EAW disks that went out with OP keys.  If this is the case, Interplay has historically given replacement keys.

Also, be sure you aren't confusing "O" (oh) with "0" (zero) or "1" (one) with "I" (eye).

I have EAW, and i know i'm not confusing the 0 and o, cause all the letter are in lower case. There are 16 characters in the key.

Well, I am afraid that is your problem then.  You got one of those CD's from the old, bad batch, that went out with an OP key.  EAW has a 20 character CD key, and is in all caps.  Orion Pirates has a 16 digit CD key, and is all lower case.

Try writing Interplay and see if they will send you a new CD key.  (I don't know if Taldren can do this or not.)  They should be well familiar with the problem.

Good luck!  Make sure you mention that your CD is part of that bad batch they sent out, with the CD key for the wrong game.  They *should* remember this; it was big news at the time.

I'm truly sorry I can't be of more help.  CD keys are just something I can't do anything about.  Unless someone else here knows of a faster way to get a replacement CD key?  I know several people went through this problem.  Anyone?

I had this problem with the UK version until I realised you had to put in the dashes using the 'minus' sign.

e.g. Y23Y-8TG3-5CFD-T567

If it was SFC3 you could probably find out the CD Key just by looking through the registry.  SFC2 I dunno.  You'll have to talk with Interplay.

Look on the bright side- at least you don't have to deal with Activision's support team.  If you can even call them that.

email me at the addy in my profile, I'll be glad to share mine.   If Interplay won't provide decent customer service, then this is the least we can do.
