K, so I'm getting ready to go back to school, and move towards an accounting degree. I'm looking through the course schedule, and I'm required to take a class called Introduction to computers. Now we'll just forget that I've been using programs like MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint since they were first made. In fact, I was using their predecessors. And we'll forget that I find it completely insulting that I'm required to take this stupid class on subjects I figured out on my own when I was just a child. I'm still required to take the class.
I've learned to swallow my pride, when I look at the course catalog and guess what I find...
This course, named Introduction to Computers, isn't offered very much in a classroom setting. No, this course is almost exclusively being offered ONLINE!!!!! How can you have a class called Introduction to computers ONLINE??????
AM I THE ONLY ONE HERE THAT SEES HOW BADLY THIS GOES AGAINST COMMON SENSE?????

I can see requiring the class because unlike you there are people who haven't used the programs. Apparently the irony of the class being online only was missed by the powers that be.

After I was laid off at the end of 2001 I decided to go the the local Vo-Tech/community college to take a few courses and I ended up having a rather frustrating argument about my having to supply a high school transcript. Even after getting her to agree that non-traditional students did not need to supply a high school transcript and that I had graduated 29 years earlier she still insited that I need the transcript!

I left and called back the next day and got someone that actually knew what they were doing.

Yeah i had to take an intro to computers class too, I thought about testing out but then you get no credit even though you get credit for taking it. It actually worked out pretty good because it was 8:00 in the morning so I usually just slept or finished work for another class. Sucks if you have to take it during a useful time of day though and having it on the internet is kind of assanine I mean how do you use the internet if you already haven't learned the equivalent of what they teach in intro to computing.

I had to take somehting like that. I even took the scond one when I need one more class to fill out my schedule at the end of my BS as I knew it would be an easy one.

True story here. For my last class to get my MIS degree, we had to do some sort of project for an outside company. One guy in my group, who was also getting ready to graduate with a Management "Information Systems" degree, was so much of a dunce that he didn't even know what a zip drive was. This from a guy in a computer related field! I was so stunned that I almost laughed in his face whenhe said that. Plus, he couldn't even format his part of the powerpoint presentation correctly. He had bullets all over the place and none of them lined up with each other. Naturally, that was the one part I didn't have the time to check over.
