SirGod,

Been years since I was last in the Bahamas (1986?).  had a great time, but my time was spent primarily in Nassau.  I did go to Freeport ... it was pretty "rustic" but like I said, that was a long time ago.

The US State Department has a listing for all requirements to enter a country.  For the Bahamas it says ...

BAHAMAS - Proof of U.S. citizenship, i.e., a passport (if you are using an expired passport it cannot be expired more than 5 years) or original or certified copy of a birth certificate with a photo ID, and onward/return ticket required for stay of up to 8 months. Passport and residence/work permit needed for residence and business. Permit required for firearms and to import pets. Departure tax of $15 must be paid at airport. For further information call Embassy of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, 2220 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20008 (202/319-2660) or nearest Consulate: Miami (305/373-6295) or New York (212/421-6420).

The link the the Table of Contents can be found at:  http://travel.state.gov/foreignentryreqs.html

Hope it helps.

HI guys, about two weeks ago, I had signed Denise and I up for a local contest here in OKC, to try and win a trip. as It so happens we won, and have a choice of where we want to go to, One of the locations is the Bahamas, Or Cancun Mexico.

I know with Mexico , you don't need a Passport, But I wasn't sure about the Bahamas. We are looking very closely at that as a Kind of Mini-Vacation towrds the end of Summer. ( I need time to fit into a speedo).

Anyone else been there, and what Is the Travel there like?

Thanks Friends.

As I recall my honeymoon cruise to the Bahamas a few years ago didn't require a passport.  I don't know enough specifics to compare the two, though.

Is this a resort vacation or a cruise?

My apoligies, It's a Resort Vacation for 3 night's /2 days at Freeport.  I know when along time ago, when I went to Martinique Islands, (Before I married Denise) I needed a Passport, But I was unsure of the Bahamas given the Proximity to the states.

BTW, Do you have any thing In particular that I should check out there? I understand they Have alot of Water Activities, including one Wreck Dive that's Pretty good, However, I'm a bit Squemish about the Cave Dives they have.

It's not that I'm Claustiphobic, It's just IF something goes wrong on a Cave DIve, I don't know, It just scares me abit.

But any INfo that you can Give, I would greatly appreciate It.

thanks Barrabas.

Not sure about that Stephen. I went to Martinique in '94 and did NOT need a passport.

The first time I went, It was in 86-87, So I cna't recall. I tried looking at the CIA Fact book for the Bahammas, But couldn't find out anything. I guess, I'll just make a few calls in the next few days.

Jen and I had our honeymoon in the Bahamas (Grand) and all you need is a birth certificate.  No Passport.  Another plus they use Bahamian dollars which is fixed to "equal" with the American Dollar.  AND NO TAXES.  Of course it costs $20 for a steak.

Enjoy my friend.

Thanks for the Info Raven, we won't go untill Sept. Or Later, But It's nice too know that we are going to a place With each other. the last time we had anytime together like this was In 95. and then we went to Her Parent's house In Vegas. Not wuite the same, as a Vacation.

My Personal thinking is that This kind of trip would do her good, as It would me. She needs this Few days to relax after all of her stress. I just hhope I can Manage a Good report in convincing her to go. She has a very hard time, at Times Responding to Conversation, and Will sometimes run off and Hide rather then Facing New People, Crowds, etc.

If your resort is like ours, you can spend your days just soaking in some sun away from anyone.  Matter of fact we spent a whole day on a beach and only saw one other couple.  This was in Sept. as well.

It was a wonderful spot to spend quality time together.

mmmmmmm Quality time.......

oops sorry got side tracked.
