Release: TMP Chicago Refits - 4 Versions
« on: April 15, 2004, 01:33:30 pm »
Credits: P-81 for certain parts and textures, and special thanks to Atrahasis for letting me use his lovely Chicago as a basis for these. Additional known credits are in the zip files, PLEASE let me know if i missed anyone out. Hosted courtesy of Starfleet Universe:

ADDITIONAL: Probable fix for missing saucer textures on both variants  HERE

First 2 Variants: HERE

Second 2 Variants: HERE

And also thanks to Mariner for giving me some great ideas to use...including some that will be kept for a future date when my Max skills improve

The 4 variants are:

1: Standard Chicago in a TMP-style Refit
2: TMP-Style Refit with underside engine replaced by a weapons/sensor pod
3: Standard Chicago in TMP-Style Refit with Torp Launchers moved under the nose
4: Tmp Style Refit with under nose Torp Launchers and full sized underside engine to match the top 2.

Have fun, should be plenty enough variants to suit everyone   I'll be taking a break for a few days now, but dont be afraid to let me know what ya think.

PS: Shuddup about the Reliant registry   If anyone wants to release a texture set with different registries i would be very happy.

Hmm weird, it was fine when i uploaded it, will check now and post a fix if need be.

EDIT: Ok i just downloaded it and it displays fine in-game and in model viewer   Can anyone else have a try and let us know if you have the same problem?

EDIT2: Ok i just realised that one of the top textures is 507x512 for some stupid reason, and although it displays fine in-game and in modviewer for me, it could well be the cause of it for you, so as a temp fix, try  changing the TOP2.BMP to 512x512 and seeing if that cures it.

EDIT3: And thank you for the kind words guys, is always appreciated.

I only DL'd the 2nd set with the forward torp tubes, but all of the textures appear to be there (I did resize the one texture that wasn't square). I also removed the bottom warp engine and pylon to get a free F-NCL model out of the deal.

I wonder if FS will rework his 3.2 list update (if there is one) so as to include using this model in place of the miranda folder that is over representative of too many ships in the fed list.

Would be nice to see more ship options than the folders we are limited to for the fed cl types in opplus.

Well this is a weird one   Anyone got any ideas why the textures dont show for some? They are perfect for me, and i even got my Missus to download it, and it displays fine in ModViewer for her too on a completely different puter...

Dont suppose you guys use a particular kind of graphics card? Everyone i know with an nvidia based one has no probs at all, and i cant see why its messing up for some people.

Most photo editing programs can do it, even paint. Try searching through the  menu's for a resize option. Change the dimentions to 512/512 or something and your set.

Ok I'll give it a try.

Update: WOW I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. Thanks sir,I found the resize option, did it and it worked.Model fixed.See you can learn something new everyday.I know i just did

-MP

Update 2:I actually fixed 2 more ships I had texture problems with. Thanks again Starforce 2 for that little bit of info.On another note I have a two more ships with texture problems that I am sure I am no match to take on. 1)  It's a 4 Narcelle hybrid of a Gal / Amb / and Excel stylings. 2) An Aero_Class Fed Fighter/Shuttle . I'm sure it's a matter of texture sizing or something like that.Anyone want to attemp the repair ? Then we can all enjoy another 2  ships in the SFC universe.

So ya guys reckon its due to that oddly shaped texture that it didnt show up? If so, i will post the properly-sized texture up at SFU as a fix for others.

Let me know, and thank you guys

Hehe and well done MP, its always worth having a tweak and try, its how i learnt to 'bash in Max

3470 polys.. That's too rich for my blood. I'll have to see if I can lower that without any ill effects. LODs are also needed..

.. jeez man.. and the textures.. you can reduce the space taken by the BMPs by reducing their BPP from 24 to 8. It won't affect the model.

Otherwise, this thing is a great looking ship.

The torp launcher on the top is cool. It's better to be able to see the photons flash from the launchers, like you can when it's on top. Good idea, man.

Does affect them on my machine for some reason, when i run 8x Anti-Aliasing or higher I get nasty flickering and ocassional transparency...at the higher settings they dont. Probably just my GFX/drivers, but i cant stand the flickering lol. I know a lot of people will need LODs, but i dont need to worry about them on my machine as long as the model is below 4000, which is purely selfish but gives me time to work on other stuff.

Remember, ive only been using Max for about 3 weeks now

FireSoul, while your modding the Chicago, can you try and attempt the following?

* - Lower Sensor dome does not match the curvature of the saucer and the forward light fixture is digging into the mesh.

* Adjustment of lighting testures to fit new hull geometry. I'd be happy if we could actually see the light for the top half of the saucer.

* - Make the ALL nacelles glow on both sides and add the 1651 registry to them.

* - Removal OR alteration of saucer line markings. I think that my paint bashing skills and word editing skills aren't to to fixing either.

* - Adujustment of the saucer textures so that they do not "warp" slightly on the underside.

I hope that isn't too much.

BTW, where can I get some swell blank 1024 P81 Ent textures? Destiny used some on his DeForrest Kelly, and I'd I think I can make the registriy in Word if the saucer were bigger (so that the red lines show up at the proper size relative to the lettering.)

My $.02 worth...

For the first two varients...

...the 1st would be the basic NCA...

1651 Chicago (Later refit to NHV)
    1652 New York
1653 Dayton (Later refit to NHV)
    1654 Los Angeles

    ...plus many others.

The 2nd version would make a fine NCD if the torp pod were changed to drones (the 4 B-racks; and could the rear of the pod be closed up?), and the top side torps (which this version dosn't have) be changed to drones as well (the 2 G-racks)...

    1515 Azov
    1516 Groznyy
    1517 Gromykii
    1541 Sverdlov
    1542 Varyag

**********

Of the 2nd two varients...

...if the 1st were given an extra phaser to the p/s mounts, it would make a nice NCC (the torps being moved to the front of the saucer to make room for the flag bridge accomodations).

1655 London -Completed as NCC (+ 2 others, as well as a CLC converted. My personal list includes...
    1660 Buenos Aires
    1664 Calgary -renamed Indianapolis
    1580 Clausewitz -renamed Dallas

As for the 4th varient with the full-sized 3rd nacelle, being the stickler that I am, I prefer the smaller nacelle. Although, this could be used as the basis for an NCF, which had 3 full-sizes nacelles.

**********

For a normal NCL, I would simply remove the 3rd nacelle from the first version (with the torps on top).

    1500 Kearsarge
    1501 Reliant
    1502 Alabama
    1503 Repulse
    1504 Renown
    1505 Prince of Wales

I would take Rod's version...

...add an extra phaser to the p/s mounts, and you have an instant CLC.

1580 Clausewitz -Converted to NCC design in '79
    1581 Sun Tzu
    1582 Jomini
    1583 Tacitus
    1584 Mahan
    1585 Clancy
    1586 Coyle
    1587 Webber

For DarkMatrix's version...

...if the 3rd nacelle was re-added, and the changes discussed above for the NCD were done, it would make a great NDC.

    1690 USS Crecy
1691 USS Terra Australis -refit NCD
*The hull numbers and the 2nd name are my additions

Lotsa possibilities here for all of the NCL/NCA varients from SFB.

Its all lit for me...lights and windows all glow in-game, plus registry number is highlighted, what more lighting is needed there? You could have emailed me a few days ago when i gave you the link to preview and SAID something before it got released?   Unless you are just planning to sit there looking at it zoomed-in via ModViewer, half that stuff doesnt show up in-game anyway - its not a JOAT submission rofl

Sheesh just build a new one fer chrissakes!

I need help with some lettering texture work.. for the following files:

bot.bmp
top2.bmp
fcaC.bmp
ncasec.bmp

I need the following registries:
NCC-1503  U.S.S Repulse
NCC-1515  U.S.S Azoz
NCC-1651  U.S.S Chicago
NCC-1677  U.S.S Manta Ray
NCC-1689?  U.S.S Crecy

These are for model variants.. and I kinda suck at putting in lettering on the saucers.

If nobody gets to it quickly, I'll try to get those done this weekend, FS.

Btw, it's USS Azov, and the USS Crecy was never given a number by SVC, so I gave it 1690. And I noticed that you included the Manta Ray (number is correct). You got a plan to make a new fast cruiser?

Sorry Age.. I am picking and using the Chicago because it matches the SSD's diagram's shape. I don't just like it 'for the sake of it'. I like it because I've been looking for this for a long time.

Very nice. Wish there was as many Hydran models to fill all the classes like fed ones.

I have plenty of plans, my fellow modeler.
.. if you start one thing along a scheme, you gotta change them all, right?

Oh, I'm no modeler, FS. I just mess around a little with the textures and taught myself how to do registries in Adobe.

I've done the fcaC and ncasec bmps for all five, working on the others now (since RDSL is down at the moment).  Meet me on MSN for transfer?  Same as my email.

The stuff I've done so far I think I can do a little better, I'm gonna rework them some. I should have all of it done some time tomorrow.  ICQ?

Thats supposed to be a New Fast Cruiser  NCF. The fast cruisers and Fast Dreadought have a spade shaped primary hull.
check out this link for MIke Rapier's Kitbash of a heavy cruiser to a fast cruiser.
 Federation Fast Cruiser
and here's an NCF Mike's style
 Fed NCF

Enjoy

More texture tweaks. All nacelles have name/registry, glows on both sides, and slightly altered lighting. In addition, the grilles now have a bona fide "blue" glow, thanks to Rogue's Oriskany, from which I copy/pasted the glow.

But, I would like it if someone could PLEASE fix the lower sensor dome light mesh and give all nacelles "fins" on both sides, aswell as assigning the port nacelle the fcaC texture. All I'd need is the model, the thextures are already here. If anyone can do this, I would be very thankful.

Well it has to do with warp dynamics, and that the engines are hot warped. Instead of producing 15 units of power
on the ssd they run at 18 units of power for the heavy cruisers .  the NCF uses 3 x 12 unit engines these engines are typically used on NCLs.
They also save power by using a single photon torpedo bank as opposed to 2 banks that fire 2 torps.

You might want to include Rogue NineCH's USS San Jose Kearsarge kitbash as well to the list.

I have a confession to make.   I fly Federation because of the ship models.   Does that make me a schmuck?
