Wagner tops list of music not to play while driving

Quote:

LONDON (AP) ? When Richard Wagner composed his powerful Ride of the Valkyries in the 1850s, he surely wasn't thinking of any danger he was posing to 21st-century motorists.
Britain's RAC Foundation for Motoring on Wednesday named the strident classical piece the No. 1 tune not to play while driving, based on research it says shows loud music can cause accidents.

The Dies Irae from Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem was also considered a no-no. The top-five list of tunes to avoid while behind the wheel was rounded out by three modern songs ?Firestarter by the Prodigy, Red Alert by Basement Jaxx and Insomnia by Faithless.

To help music-loving motorists, the foundation also provided a top-five list of songs that may safely be played while driving, albeit quietly.

Norah Jones' smash hit Come Away with Me was deemed calm enough, as was Mad World by Gary Jules. Other songs on the safe list were Another Day by R&B singer Lemar, Too Lost in You by girl group The Sugababes and Breathe Easy by boy band Blue.

It's not the first time the RAC Foundation has warned of the dangers of driving with Wagner.

Ride of the Valkyries topped the RAC Foundation list of dangerous songs two years ago, when the issue was the peril of fast tempos. Verdi's Dies Irae was No. 3 on that list.

I would have expected the 1812 Overture to be high on the list of dangerous songs.  I know from personal experience that one tends to weave all over the road dodging cannon fire.

Also, I would image Carl Orff's O Fortuna would be high on the list. How can you not slam the gas and fly when you listen to it?

Add another vote for "Radar Love"... funny how many thought of that, is it just an artifact of FM rock playlists?

For me some special ones are:
Peter Gabriel's version of the "Weavers Reel" from Ovo,  "The Rhythym of the Heat" and "The Famiily and the Fishing Net" from Security.
Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast" followed up by "Run to the Hills" on the original album.
Portions of Rick Wakeman's "Six Wives of Henry the Eighth",
Emerson Lake and Palmer's version of "Jerusalem" on Brain Salad Surgery (Tocatta and Karn Evil 9 too...)
Roger Waters' "The Powers That Be" from Radio KAOS (+whole album)
Queen's "The Prophet's Song" from A Night at the Opera
Dire Straits' "The Man's too Strong" from Brothers in Arms and "Iron Hand" from On Every Street
GnR's "Don't Damn Me" from Use Your Illusion I
Hendrix's "Manic Depression" followed up by "I Don't Live Today" (oh yeah!)
Any of Tristania's work

I think most of these songs can be blamed for the heat damage to my old engine! (105 hp is just not meant to break 180 kph on hilly, twisty, bumpy roads...   )

I would say "Kick Start my Heart" by Motley Crue would be up there.  Oh and "Master of Puppets"by Metallica. That always gets me going. I've seen my Step father back in the day speed through rush hour listening to "Danger Zone" I think is by Kenny Loggins IIRC

Turbo Lover and Radar Love are also up there for me

Yep, those 2 are right up there for me to.
Toss in The Game by Disturbed, STPs Crackerman, Godsmack's Awake, Prong's Snap Your Fingers, and Metalica's Breadfan.
Those are big on my "Not in the car" list.

The funny thing is that I listen to  Ride of the Valkaryes and  The 1812 Overture all the time in the car!

I always have this music going through my head when I drive on US 22 near my home!

I'm going to have to try that now.

Another one I've played, especially when just starting out on long trips, is the Raiders of the Lost Ark main theme.

A certain post about someone singing to Justing Timberlake in an open top and swallowing a bee comes to mind.

How about "Radar Love", or on a Friday "I live for the Weekend" by Triumph, or a final treat, "Arrested for Driving While Blind" by ZZ Top

(105 hp is just not meant to break 180 kph on hilly, twisty, bumpy roads...   )
