The Microsoft Works Spreadsheet works os good for SFC spec files as well..

Oh I know how to use it, I just have a hard time remembering which thing does what in the DefaultLoadOut

Ya, he is right.  For SFC1, SFC2 and OP editing the ship list files for those games with Excell is a sinch, but SFC3 is a whole other beast!  Its not quite as esay too edit things in that game.   Any kind of utility would really help if you wanted too make a mod.

Are you kidding? It's REALLY easy to mod SFC3 - and the most important thing to remember is that you can create ship LoadsOut IN GAME - and copy them from the CustomLoadOut file.

Better than spending DAYS editing the LoadOut file manually......

Now Balancing.. that's a whole different story........

One day I'll find the time to write out a short guide of some kind, as really, it's not difficult at all, you just have to know the methods. In fact, I find it easier than using ShipEdit, though that's probably because there is a lot more to edit with SFC2...

Here's a "mini guide" to editing SFC3.

Create a copy of an existing ship, we'll use the Galaxy.
Duplicate the lines in both the Core & LoadOut file.
Change the ClassName in BOTH files to something unique, make sure they are the same in both. Change the SubName in the LoadOut file to something Unique, we'll use "Galaxy 2"
In the Core file, under the PowerMass, WeaponsMass, HullMass & ShieldMass columns, change the values to 40000.
Load the game up, your new ship will be available. Refit it as you see fit, when you are happy with this as a LoadOut. Save it. Write down the amount of mass you used in each area.
Now open up the CustomLoadOut file (in Assets/Specs), delete the "Custom" tag, and put the SubName back to what it should be. Now copy the line and overwrite the original line in the LoadOut file.
Open up the Core file & input your Mass values into the corresponding columns.

If you've followed the instructions correctly, you've just added an alternate version of the Galaxy. Just make sure you edit the columns I have listed, and NO OTHER. There might be other columns with "Galaxy" in them, but you only want to change the SubName column. SubName is the only column which MUST be unique, or it treats both lines as one ship, and screws everything up royally.

BUT- what if I make a new ship in CoreEdit?  How can I create a LoadOut for it?

I want to add a Star Destroyer here

If you have DomWars 4+ - you just copy mine!!!

Creating LoadOut's is the easiest part. All you need to fill in is the first few columns, and then you'll have a blank ship, you then load up, refit it, save it, load it up in the Custom LoadOut file, and copy over the required section.
