A question about battle damage
« on: April 04, 2004, 07:30:14 am »
Hi all, ModelsPlease with a couple of questions about battle damage textures. Now I know that as you accumulate damage in game the damage texures appear and get more severe as you take more damage, and disappear subsequently when you repair your ship.I'm sure they have been asked before but................

 Questions

1) Has anyone ever done/considered replacing the first damage texture that appears, with a texture that looks like the repair work done on the E at the end of ST II / ST III ?

2) And is it possible to keep that texture in place until repairs are done at a station ?

3) Are damage textures unique to each model or are they pretty much generic ?

If it can be done I don't think it should have an illumination map.I think the damage repaired texture should be dark,as if it has no power in the area.My $.02.

Thanks for any information.

Answers:
1 Yes, but they appear in order so you have; hull plates, broken area then large broken area. As things get repaired they reverse. It looks odd that your engineer fixes damage as soon as it occurs then have all that work disappear.

2 No, if you can repair enough damage the textures will disappear they are hard coded based on BPV data of the ship.

3 Generic they are in the \Assets\Textures directory as Light Damage, Medium Damage and Heavy Damage.

So though they can be replaced it doesn't quite go the way you would like.

Hold your horses.
In SFC3 the damage textures are different per model.

Yes they are per model after a patch but they still can not do what he is talking about. They are still based on the BPV value, and can only show what is there they are not seperate for being damaged and then repairing damage they are just different sizes of the same texture.
