Improved atmosphere effect
« on: February 26, 2003, 05:26:20 pm »

Hi, everyone

Ever wondered how the planets in SFCIII looked a little "pale"
After a quick look trough the textures folder I decided to do something about it and here are the results:

Still interested? Check these larger screenshots:
 a larger comparison shot
 a view of a planet
Top down view of a planet
Planetrise with the new atmospheric effect

The mod is very small (16 kb zip-file) and overwrites only one file (atmosphere.bmp) from your /Assets/textures folder under SFCIII. If you do try it out remember  to backup your original atmosphere.bmp file.

Here is the download link
Download Here (16 kb)
And don't forget to post your comments

Very beautiful!

Maybe it can find it's way into the official patch.  That would be beyond awesome.

And if not, it can still find it's way into Neutral Zone 1.3, I'm sure.

BTW, will you be able to play on 'regular' servers after applying this?  I don't see why a server would care about your atmospheres file, but you never know...

Unless you have an objection Spectre, I'll be including this in the next version of TNZ. Wonderful job, very clever.

See, here's the beauty of BattleClinic---Spectre can add it right to the ANALYSIS section himself---with full comments & graphics--

How about it, Spectre? Can you login to BC and upload it?

SghnDuhb, file is now available at BattleClinic (as an application)

Chris Jones, KoraH, (and anyone else) you are free to use this mod  in your own mods. If you would like a slightly different effect please contact me and I will see what I can do...

I have not tested this mod with every kind of planet there is, so if you notice anything weird report it to me.

After seeing it in-game, I'm even more impressed!

It's just a little thing, really.  But wow, it's like having a cheese-cloth taken off the monitor it's such an improvement!

Beautiful!

Thank you for your innovation, Spectre!

Can you fix the weapon textures also?  The beams look quite cartoonish (they're quite a bit wider than the ones in sfc1/2, so you can really see it when they spin on their axis).
