If Enterprise had DS9's/First Contact Movie writing staff with the likes Ronald Moore on board then the series most probably would not be in cancellation trouble.   Instead Paramount went with the Voyager writing staff with Brannon Braga.  Now, Ronald Moore and the old DS9 special effects dept. is in competition with Enterprise with the promising re-imagined BSG series.  Personally, BSG has replaced Enterprise as the series for me to watch.  Too bad, I really liked TNG and DS9, kinda tolerated Voyager.  But, Enterprise cannot lay a glove on the old B5 series (I missed most of the first-run Voyager shows cuz I liked B5 better. Only saw Voyager when B5 ended), and probably can't touch the new BSG series.  BSG and Enterprise will  probably compete in this January 2005's network line-ups.  That's assuming Enterprise makes it to the January 2005 show lineup of UPN.

Do you mean Battle Star Gallactica the newer version with Edward Elmos and Starbuck as a female?

Yep, highest rated show in SciFi channel history.

Well, they wear blue jumpsuits, so the Red Shirts are safe for now.

Kirk isn't the ladies man anymore, the last times he put a move on a chick, she turned into him!

Ditto.

Highest rated Sci-Fi channel == a small fraction of those who watched the original on ABC
every week.

BTW B5 trumps everything but TOS in my book (and TOS vs. B5 would be a good
knock down drag out for me).  The writing in B5 makes the writing in modern Trek
look like a 3rd grade play.

Thanks,

Dave

Quite correct.
And also a reflection of the splintering of the TV market since cable. < 10 channels (actually 4??) then vs 100+ now

Well, to be fair, B-5 was a self-contained storyline, that was planned from the start to go a certain way.

Look at how bad year five of B-5 wasd, as well as the subpar follow on series and TV movies.

Also, dinosaur that I am, I have to mention that year three of ToS was incredibly lame, I doubt anyone would defend episodes like "Spock's Brain."

"Brain and brain, what is brain???"

They still do though on thier chests and shoulders of those jumpsuits.I never saw Capt.Kirk make a pass at women
in Generations but he didn't have chance didn't he it was about one big fight scene.I wonder when some one in
going to recue him out of the hulk of the saucer section of Enterprise D either from the past or present there
a good movie in this to bring Kirk back alive if R. Berman or Paramout want my Ideas they are going to have
get me down there everyone would like this I sure they would just like I thought of Empires ay War as TV
series I have Ideas on that but they would have to get down there(Paramount). It would make a great tv series
        too.

Actually, Ratboy's Timeline for the Andro invasion would make a great series of movies.

Year 5 of B5, there was a year 5?  Year 5 of B5 would be like telling Peter Jackson he needs to make
a 4th LotR movie and it can't be the Hobbit!  Oh yeah it also needs to be set after the end of RotK.

There were good 3rd season episodes, "The Enterprise Incident" immeidately pops to mind.
There are many more I would put in the good or at least enjoyable category:
http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/series/TOS/episodes/index.html?season=3
I think people are too willing to dismiss the whole season because of a few bad
apples.  Anyway, just my $0.02, your mileage may vary.

Thanks,

Dave

I would say about a third were good, a third watchable, and a thrid crap from ToS' third season.

Many of them feature a totally over-the-top Shatner hamming it up, like the episode where's he's an Indian, another over-acting fest can be seen in "the Empath," and several other horrible episodes, including the one that rivals "Spaock's Brain"  for stupidity, the great Trek Hippy fest, "The way to eden!"

HERBERT!

Yes, but the original airing of the BSG pilot topped the Nielsen's with a 44 share  , the new show was like #17,
if memory serves, of the cable Nielsen's, being beat out by "The Fairly Odd Parents" amongnst others.

Thanks,

Dave

Latest SyFy rumor on Enterprise - Season 4 puts the series in the same "12 episodes ordered and then we will see" challenge as the new BSG series:

From Sci-Fi Wire:

UPN will green-light a fourth season of Star Trek: Enterprise, but will only give the struggling SF series a 12-episode commitment, according to a rumor on the SyFy Portal Web site. Citing two sources, SyFy Portal added that Enterprise could earn another 12-episode order if the ratings for the initial dozen episodes merit it.

The site noted that the retooled Enterprise, bolstered by heightened action and the Xindi arc, has performed reasonably well against such stiff competition as the Fox juggernaut American Idol and The WB's popular Smallville. SyFy Portal noted that it was still unclear whether or not longtime Trek executive producers Rick Berman and Brannon Braga would continue to run the show if it does return. A final announcement about the fate of Enterprise is expected within the next two weeks.
