FASA V-5 just started
« on: March 31, 2004, 05:41:20 pm »
This is like a rough draft. How I model is I just get the basic shape 1st. Then in this case, I probably need to redo the struts. Then I move on  earlier projects that are further along and come back and clean this one up later.  So you wont see this again for maybe 2 months LOL. By that time maybe someone else well have one done.    I think this ship as some potential. At least I am pleased with the basic shape so far.

Hmm the Nova eh. Isn't that in the D2 model pack. If it is I don't think I could improve on that one. I kinda doing up TOS era ones atm. I'll keep it in mind for later. I think I'd have to keep working on my Texture/mesh skills as that ship looks like it would need more detailing than ones I have tried before. Its a good idea as that is one of the better FASA tmp Rom designs.

There're definitely a few Nova's out here, but I'm sure there are more than a few of us who'd like to see what you can do with her.   The one I'd like to see you tackle most is the Nightwing class Assault Ship - perhaps not an obvious choice, but i always liked her - and her Klingon equivalent, the Carrier of Doom.

Indeed this one looks v. cool, also makes more sense as a TOS ship as it's meant to be older than the V8 (War Eagle) isn't it?

BTW I dunno if you have one in the works but do you have plans for this ship's predecessor the V2 Hunter - looks pretty similar with swept back wings?

I put the V20 on my to do list. I do have 8 Rom meshes on my hard drive that need texturing, so that might be my X-mas released ship

Yea the V2 is one I'd like to do, though I may take a few liberties with the design.
Heres what I have finished meshing so far. V1, V6, V8, P12, Q1, S4 and a couple Rom TOS bases. The bases are not FASA designs but ones I made to fit in with TOS. The FASA ones looked very TMPish.
I hope to get a ship released every 2 weeks or so.

LoL I just had my bubble burst a bit. I was looking at the ships released in the D2 pak. Some of them I did are in it. I never realized. The V6 is in there. Also the V7 which I was thinking of doing. Plus the T2 and V30, though I new about the V30 already.  These ships are a must have if you havn't got them yet, cause you live in  a cave or something. I don't have a link, though a search might turn em up.

So I will likely change the order I release my ships. I'll try finishing up the models that have never been done(as far as I know) 1st. The next one may in fact be the V-5, as it is coming together quite fast.  I dont like the flat bottom as seen in the schematic.  Well to me, with the shape of the nose, sleekness of the hull and the wing like struts. I thought that this ship might be capable of entering atmosphere with some extra hull plating in the front and enforcing the shielding around the nacels. Perhaps some type of plating could close over the front of the buzzards to protect them while in atmosphere. The ship would rely on impulse power only to land anyway,  with reverse thrusters on the bottom. So I was kinda thinking of adding in some stuff to the bottom which is'nt visible in the schematic anyway. My reasoning is at 1 time a V5 may have been forced down and made an emergency landing on a planet. Amazingly it survived so the Romulans refitted it. Adding retractable landing gear and vertical impulse engines, to aid in taking off from the surface. Thus it can act as a dual role cruiser with troop assault capability.

So? who's to stop you from doing them. How many Enterprises are there, or D7's for that matter?. If you want to do them go ahead and do them, we can allways use more variants, of everything.

I'll do em    My thinking is that I'd rather fill in the gaps  first, where ships are missing, rather than release ships that exist already. If I release a ship that is already out there, I  feel it should be at least as good as any previous versions out there. Now in TOS ships, there is little room for improvement, since some of the ships (ie V8)   are rather simplistic. However I feel I can add a bit of a different flavor to them that some may prefer and others not. But yea, different versions of the same ship do add some variety. Ideally I'd like to do up all the FASA Romulans. But realistically 2 per ship class would be pretty decent.

At any rate. My goal is too have a similar paint scheme to all the TOS Romulans I release. This will  help give the overall appearance that the ships are part of a fleet that were built in the same time period.  PLus it will reduce the time I need to spend texturing them all, as once I get a set of textures I won't have to do the next ship from scratch. I can just remap textures and do some minor tweaking.
