Yea, like I wanna watch William Shatner stare at the Enterprise in dry dock for twenty minutes like a jackass. =)

On par with ST5 for watchability, IMHO.

Sounds like you're one who thrives more on Militarism-ish cool-looks and action that Sisko and the Defiant can bring!

Then this movie, in pure Gene-ish fashion, is not for you Delta. It's one of the best Trek movies really. Not too much of any violence...

And you must know the meaning of every scene. When Shatner played Kirk, he wasn't looking at the Enterprise's redesigned look (which was, by Robert Wise, attempted to be masked at first by the dry dock before that coming about), and her awesome beauty just probably put Kirk in some of an awe. Scotty must have done Kirk a favor by giving him an outside tour. And giving the audience such too.

BTW, I have the Director's Edition DVD.

One of only two that I have... I never bothered going to get the others yet. *shrug* Budget problem. :\ But I got ST2 as well, that's my other DE DVD.

I still like the ludicrously long beauty shots of the Enterprise in the original version - it was the first time we ever got to see the ship, and she deserves to be ogled.

With the exception of some kack-handed attempts in the N/Gen series, we never really get to see the (I think she's hideous) Ent D, or worse still (the return to elegant form) Ent E in any great detail for any length of time to really appreciate them. I say we've been robbed since TMP.

...and to be honest, after STII, there's little of real worth on any of the other DE releases to make purchase compulsory.

Delta Assault, you should just stick to rootin' tootin' soulless anime, and leave the adult movies with adult themes to the big kids.

Hey now, MajorRacal, don't push off Star Trek III like that.. the music while they were stealing the Enterprise has got to be some of the best movie music of all time! I still hear it in my head at times. We get to see the might Excelsior, although aptly humbled... we also get to see a weak side of Kirk, and the bonds that they all shared. They were all friends, and they were all in it together, in one shape or another.... very human experience. Didn't any of you think how neat it would be to have a friend that you go could rescue like that?
Too bad the rest of the movies went a little downhill...

Actually, I hate the Defiant. The E Refit looks great but that doesn't mean I have to oogle it frame after frame.ST1 was boring and bereft of emotion. ST2 was a huge improvement.

Oh, and I don't like anime. Hate it with a passion. Dumb samurai robots and giant alien eyes. Ugh.

I agree with MajorRacal.It would have been nice to have the ludicrously long beauty shots of the Enterprise each time it was a new ship.I would have loved a repeat of the Scotty Kirk shuttle voyage in Generations as they saw the E-B for the first time.How cool would that have been ? Or in the pilot TNG they could have done Picard's first approach to E-D or better still McKoy and Data in a shuttle (since we know McKoy hated the transporters) instead of walking through a corridor.My $.02 cents

From a modeler's and texturer's standpoint, the often derided 20 plus minute flight and overview of the Enterprise is a rare treat to actually get a good if not superb look at the details of the ship. One of the hardest things to do is the aztec patterning on the hull. I have a habit of slowing down that entire scene and soaking up details about the ship. In ST2:TWOK you get only a very short look at the Enterprise before she leaves spacedock.

And it's actually six minutes... I have the soundtrack.

It just feels long because it's a moment we are lost in. Whether awe or boredom we're lost in, is our choice to be. For me at first, I guess I was in awe... But then who knows what I did as a kid?

I still remember sitting in the theater when TMP came out, 11 years old and growing up with ST re-runs...that 6 or 20 minutes, whatever, was the most awe inspiring moment of the movie. Nothing like seeing The Big E on the bigscreen.

That's one reason I've never done either the original TOS or the TMP Enterprises...I'm not good enough yet, and I won't dishonor her with a less than perfect attempt.

I also need a more powerful machine, cause it will be highly detailed, meshwise.

Unfortunately, don't have any DVDs yet, but I do have First Contact and Insurrection on VHS.

I know, I'm behind the times, but, what can I say.
