Pest,
Get over it. It is an alternate time line. That's it. No biggy. There is absolutely no relationship between the downfall of trek and Enterprise and it (Enterprise) cannot be blamed for trek's state. As I have said elsewhere, trek started to suck when it tried to be all things to all people: A show for men, women, kids, etc. Enterprise is a show for adults much as TOS was, despite the many children who did watch it like me.
And that whole TOS triad of main characters is not a duplicatable thing nor does it need to be duplicated. That is only one way to do a show and it is perhaps the most banal, the buddy show or movie. Things in life are a bit more complicated than some chummy exchange of quips like a good deal of the beloved TOS. Enterprise is a mature show with a mature and modern sensibility and in that fashion it is certainly better than many trek series of late. I mean, I have been watching those DS9 reruns and some of those episodes are just so awful and stiff and poorly paced. Enterprise is much more polished and cinematic in its scale while DS9 can feel so closed, claustrophobic, and just TV, TV. Enterprise is like a little movie each week and it looks that way.
I would say that Enterprise is more Roddenberry than DS9 and Voyager or even TNG to some extent and it certainly shares more with TOS than any other trek show. Enterprise tries to deal with complex moral issues on the scale of nations and planets much like a number of Roddenberry's more preachy episodes.
There are a lot of things to recommend Enterprise and it is certainly a show worth watching.
