How many people will play DOE?
« on: February 26, 2003, 08:36:41 am »
Since I have been talked into flying on the D2 for the Romulan cause I'd like to know.   The D3 Activision servers generally have over 40 peeps on at a time.   Anything under 20 is dull.

So will there be enough players?

Also, is it mostly noobs or vets.  I get enough noobs on the D3.  I'd like to test my skills against someone who has a clue what the hell they are doing.

If this isn't going to be a challange for the SOS why bother?   Personally Cleo . . . . well you know my thoughts on this.    We need to practice up on the D3 under the new patch.  Whenever the heck that comes out in a supported version.    I agree until the patch comes out we might as well have some fun here in D2land,  but not if it's going to be boring.

Hoping for a good turnout.

Egads!!! Nero flying Rom! What is the world comoing to?

Fear not, I am looking into drumming up some fun for you guys. Granted we may not be the skilled folks you want to game with, but we can hopefully give you guys something of a run for your money.

SFC2.net has a server up now. We are also waiting with baited breath (no, really, we use bait) for their next serious server due out soon.

Hail Steel Claw!

What race will you fly for DOE?

Thanks for the response.  I just hope this server everyone is talking about is out before the "supported" D3 patch.

On the patch support issue,  I see Mr. Haggerty from ATVI is now posting on the Taldren General Forums.   I also see a lot of deleted posts.   Ugly over there.

I would venture to say that KAT/KOTH will be flying Kzin on D2 servers.

I was told DOE was  Feds & Gorn vs. Romulans only.    So you going to be a noob (Fed) a target (Gorn) or a Victor??

If other races are involved I've been misinformed by Cleo.   She's always right though.   At least that is what she tells us.

A couple questions.
Who are Die Hard, Max Power and Ikkerpig? What did they do?
What is your normal turnout on the d2? Say about 8pm est? We SOS'ers are used to a target rich enviroment. I don't think any of us has done d2 in a long time (some not at all) so we are a little worried about if it will be worth our time. The d3 is our home, but our discust with the state of affairs until we get a definitive patch has lead us to dv2. Most of us had the game collecting dust, the rest found it in the bargin bin. I know in my case some guy named chub or choot or something showed up on acti C blabbing about how the dv2 was much better now. I talked to a couple fleetmates and we are here now, hoping for a worthwhile game.
Thanks for your time, may we meet in battle!

DH,max, and licker were banned for what Taldren determined to be grievous forum abuse.....its not fair to lump them together as it was three different different people with three different issues....

A petition thread was run for their reinstatment to the boards.....but as of this time ..Taldren's answer is no...

Frankly.....you shouldnt be worried about turn out.....you should be worried that your pilots who never played SFC2 will get their heads handed to them by Veteran Federation Captains....SFC3 and SFC2 are different battle systems...right now....your fleet should be training....and training hard....

This isnt a slam on your fleet or your skills.....simply a desire to get your fleets best game and see that your pilots dont get disgouraged with a different level of gameplay.....

I'm definitely going to be there.  I can hardly wait to renew the test of arms with out age-old enemies the Federation and the Gorn.

In the meantime, I've been playing on SFC2.NET 7.35.  It has been a little tedious due to low turnout, but decent practice, nonetheless.

Thanks for the reply Criminik.
As for us getting discouraged, well we've been putting up with the follow target bug, the seeking shuttle bug, magic probes, limp wristed disrupters, never hit plasmas....
I think we are pretty forgiving and willing to learn. We want to have fun and kick the crap out of the feds! (these two ideas are not mutually exclusive) I won't go into details about the dv3 bias about the feds, but the idea of kicking thier ass on something approaching even terms is very appealing! Plus they have Gorn lap dogs, which make exellent luggage, miniskirts, furniture coverings, emergency prophylactics and shoe soles.
May we meet in battle- and have fun!

If DOE is going to be limited to those three races (all inferior, but what the hey), I am not sure. But, since the SOS gauntlet has been thrown, I doubt we would play Rom. Guess we would have to get the members to choose.

I'll be going through Beta Test trials of the GFL D2 dyna campaign, www.gfluniverse.net/d2/ , I am developing so I won't be able to play DOE.  Also, two of my favorite races, Klingon and ISC, are not involved.

Federation Captains such as he....

SFC2 Federation Ranks include some of the finest pilots in the game.

It is allways and Honor to meet those pilots in battle.

And remember this SOS... they have cut their teeth on the best of the Romulan and Klingon Empires for over two years....

Order extra body bags....you may have need of them

Well...I admire the spirit of your fleet....

Welcome to your next addiction....

You may want to do some research on the following tactics....

The Gorn anchor

The Photinic colonic aka The Federation anchor

The hammer

Phaser boating

The Photon dance

The Plasma ballet

The broadside

The shield shredder

The Phaser enema

The thatch weave

The shove

The whip

The tug

The scatter pack whack attack...

The suicide overrun

The starcastle

The wolf pack

The stalking horse

And thats just for Feds and Gorns....you can imagine the amount of specific tactics when talking all about an race DV

Nero trust me there will be enough players most will be long standing vets and are very honrable I will bet money you wont find any cheaters
Many a D3 player has his or her's roots in sfc2 and a lot started out in sfc1
A have herd that a lot of feds have moved on to D3 so I am not sure how many will be about Ill end up playing for the smallest numbered race on the server
(if its fed Ill be easy meat rom I should do ok and hell if its gorn I may even win a few:))
Its all ways nice to see new faces on the d2 and from what I have read some of your fleet members a new to sfc2 but I do think they will like it

Hee hee hee Fresh meat is right!

Let's see...
At the height of SFC2.net, formerly known as Canada West, we had over 100 on line at once. This naturally led to database problems and the limit was reduced to 75. This reduced the number of database problems but it did tend to produce waiting times to get logged on (waiting times, that should be new to D3 players).

As for whether or not it is worth your time.

A most definate and resounding YES!

Think about it, where do you think the basis for the D3 evolved from? answer: The same place as D2.

Those that have beena round D2 for a while (jumps up and down and waves hands along with a few others in this thread) can recognize a lot of the aspects and *cough*updates*cough* in the D3 that came out of feedback from D2. If SOS has picked uip the mantle in D3, it is a mantle that started in D2.

Unfortunately you will find other aspects in D3 as well some of the bugs and poor sportamanship are still there. But as a community we have established ways of dealing with them, something D3 may still be trying to define.

Chances are most of the respectable pilots in D3 cut their teeth in D2.

Add to all of this four more races.

Any possibility of Mirak in this server? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease? Give thema real taste of weapon variety.

Having a new aspect such as an entire fleet would be most refreshing.
