Question to the makers of the mod exporter, and viewer
« on: March 21, 2004, 10:48:58 pm »
Is there a upper limit to what can be converted, by it. I am going for detail on my ship and as of now it sets at 44k when Its done it will be close to 200k. So im wondering can the exporter handle that, and would the mod viewer be able to open it.

Yeah, it can handle it, I've seen it handle 8-1000 poly models easily. Of course, they will cause lag in game, just too detailed.

I dont think you understand The model is not 800 to 1000 polies, as it sets now its 140,000 polies just for one engine alone, simple reasons I want it detailed so Im modleing everything. So when Im done with it, it will probably be half a million polies.

Thats why Im wondering if the exporter could handle something that big.

Iīm not sure if itīs been tested with that many polys because the game engine doesnīt suport 500k polys.
So why would you want to export it in .mod format? Just curious....

BTW, when it is finished, please give us a shot. It will look awesome!!!

For thoes who dont have max and might want to look at it in the mod viewer and maybe do some renders of it themselves. And I have a wip thread going in the model forum if you want pictures.

Sorry, that was a typo!!! I meant 8-10000 polys.

Generally, it's not worth going over 5000 though. In fact, it's best to keep it below 3000.
