From what I've seen so far it has greatly improved the game.  There are still a couple of small issues I believe, and as for D3 play, that remains to be fully evaluated, although last night was the smoothest night of D3 play for me yet.

Still getting Unhandled Exception errors.  Game balance seems improved, at least for the Rom Warbird against the AI in skirmish games.  It seems better than the unpatched version of the game, but they've got to improve the stability of this game.  And the exploding wingman bug apparently still exists - that should have been one of the first to get squashed.

The free hull repair on refit bug seems to have persisted, but everything else seems spot on from where I sit (though I reserve the right to bitch and moan about Son of Uber Probe? if it proves too powerful in testing).

A very, very enthusiastic  .

Damn that server package! Disconect Disrepute has completely ruined online play. I only manage to report BACK from 1/3 of all missions, the rest of the time I get stuck 'in battle'. Otherwise, good.

Played the patched version for a while, seemed to work well and  I did not get dropped from the server at all.
Still ran into a few problems though
-got attacked by AI and had no accept button so I auto-forfeighted (really a pain in the GFL map where you start with 50 pp)
-cloaked ships still seen in shields and against nebulas
-during several battles I was also seeing flashes of green like I was in a nebula, but wasn't.

BAH!

1) Dynaverse Server Build 500 stinks, plain and simple.  While it has SQL support (supposedly), i get unhandled exception errors in the log viewer and the server stops loading.  When i run with FlatFile (no SQL) it works though i get a lot of errors, and worst of all no matter what i do with the chat.gf file it will NOT create a chat channel!

2) Dynaverse connection.  It is now 2x or 3x more difficult to get past the annoying Direct Play Test Host.

3) Patching with a mod is extremely complicated as it detects modified models.  You have to reinstall the game, then rerun the patch, then back up DefaultCore.txt and DefaultLoadOut.txt and CommonSettings as the Orig.bat in Chris Jones TNG Mega-Mod resets to the 1.00 originals.  GRR!

4) I know at least one person who gets unhandled exception and game crash whenever he plays on GSA.

While I haven't actually played a game yet with the patch (I can't get my own dynaverse server up to play on!), i've had nothing but trouble.    Same with everyone else I have talked to on MSN that has downloaded the patch.  Oh yeah and that disrepute when you get the battle bug is a pain from what i hear.  (i know that is optional for server admins but it still stinks)

I wish the patch would work BETTER rather than WORSE...this thing is the worst nightmare of a server admin.

my thumb is neither up nor down.

before the patch, i couldn't play gsa  games because when gsa says "launching game" and sfc3 starts, i always get the "insert correct cd" screen. no fix has corrected this, and the patch didn't either. so that's a whole aspect of the game that it looks like i'll never get to enjoy. and that truly sux, becaus mp is the main reasons  i got the durn thing.

now (post beta patch) i can't connect to the dynaverse. never get past the  direct host part. so there is another of the 3 mp options that i have to live without.

haven't had a chance to try ip games post patch, but i have a sinking feeling that will not work either.

on the plus side, single play is great. much better after the patch. although, it freezes quiet a bit more now. pre patch i would sometimes get very brief freezes during intense weapons fire, or when the  game autosaved. now that is much much worse. but the roms are much more challenging now.

on the whole,  this game seems to be a great idea that hasn't reached it's full potential. i really hope the bugs get worked out. i'm keeping a positive outlook, but i gotta admit it's becoming very difficult.

If you're in the UK and you bought the game there, you'll need to download the UK patch.

A big

. That bug that stopped certain missions from downloading? Gone. Now I can finish the campaign games.

Romulan gimps playing Fed targets? Not any more. Any more than 2 Romulans, and they'll use their cloaks intelligently, using a decoy ship while the others get into position to open a can of whoop ass over you.

Cloaks being too easy to defeat? No chance, and if you do get a lock, you only have a few seconds before they're gone. It's far more realistic, imo.

  I'm now a captain!

Non-campaign missions are more varied, you get ambushes, much more AI ships in D-3, the SP dynaverse actually feels alive now.

As for existing bugs I've spotted...

You still get inexplicable damage from one mission to the next.

When you repair a damaged weapon (from the above bug) at the very beginning of a mission, by the time it's repaired, it's fully charged, even if the other weapons are still charging.

On the last 2 Fed missions, there's an extreme tendency for the planets to get blown up. This makes the missions impossible to win. It doesn't happen all the time, though, it's almost like they're giant ships or something. But I don't know if this is a new bug, as I've just been able to play the missions.

You can still see the shadow of cloaked ships as they pass you. People say it's a bug, but I think it's quite realistic, no reason why you shouldn't be somewhat visible if you cloak and park right next to someone trying to shoot you.

But overall, it's really made SFC 3 a great game. The multi-ship battles are just awesome...

A big thank you to taldren and ATVI for getting this out.

Im getting this now also. Before(prepatch) it would sometimes lag during intense fire exchanges, now it freezes completely. I will also get unhandled exceptions at this point sometimes also.

I logged into the Dyna, after trying unsuccesfully to get past the directplay guardian over a day and a half. Seems like my sfc.INI settings were reset by the patch . The final patch shouldn't do this, i cant even remember all the tweaks i put in there, not to mention i completely forgot the router procedure i applied previously. Goddamned NAT.

Since there are many people playing on the dynaverse including me, it seems that there may be an issue with your ISP service that makes it more difficult. Something that you cannot control.

I would say this because I also sometimes get stuck at DirectPlay Test. I just go back to the previous screen and then immediately back into the server I'm trying to get in. I always have been able to get in on the 3rd try. This is something for you to try.

For me personally, this week I have gotten in on the first try without no problems.

And are you saying that with the beta patch you cannot play MP on GSA with anyone?

Its working out great for me, except disrepute still for not being albe to enter a battle (I will go on about this for some time, just my nature ala Scoprion pt II). OBVIOUSLY they released the patch as a Beta, because they couldnt fix and find all of the problems so easily on there own. YOU DONT HAVE to try it, if you do its not GUARANTED to work perfectly. If they had released this as a final version I wouldnt be happy, time to go over to the Beta patch bug report forum and explain what where when why and how.

Peace out

I recommend a complete SFC3 uninstall/reinstall prior to installing the patch if you havn't done so. Previously installed mods may cause problems, I've found, so even deleting the Activision folder prior to the reinstall may help. Don't forget to save your mods/models if you don't have them backed up.

I've tried the patch without the reinstall first, and encountered a lot of the same problems. It cleared up after the uninstall/reinstall.

This is a BIG BIG tip for all.
There are many popular mods out there.
Especially with all these unhanlded exceptions some of you are receiving.
I have never received any of these unhandled exceptions thus far.

So far, the patch has worked fine, but they still haven't fixed the most annoying bug on the game. (at least it is when your trying to test out a mod). Whenever you play Conquest Mode, save your game, and reload at any time, straight away, or the next day, the stardate stops advancing, it freezes. All ships stay in the same spot, you get no more ships being produced in the shipyard. Basically, you have to start again. Now THAT is annoying.
