What happened to sandman...
« on: March 20, 2004, 09:45:30 am »
Well, I'll tell ya...another hd took a crap on me. And, worst of all, I've never been able to get my cd-burner to work, so no back up on my files.

Anyway, I'm on my wifes puter right now, should have mine going in a few days hopefully, but anything I was working on is dust in the wind.

I knew something screwy was going on, but didn't realize it was the hd until yesterday...started getting messages that there were inconsistancies and to run chkdsk to fix...but it didn't fix. God, I hate technology sometimes.

Well, one thing about this happening...my modeling fix is growing so when I get everything back up and running I'll be getting a few things done.

Azel, when I get things going again, send me the Dauntless file I sent you so I can make those corrections.

Alec, I haven't forgotten you either...just going to be a little longer wait, but I WILL get that to you.

OK, well, I'll catch y'all on da flip side....

try a  maxtor harddrive. I have had over 2 years of service on each of mine and they've never crapped. 7200 rpm's. Also, they run constantly...the comp is never shut down except  for restart and  vacation lol.

Yeah, Maxtor is what I put in my wifes puter a couple years ago, and it's still going strong. The one in my puter was one my brother-in-law gave me. It was practically brand new, he just upgraded from a 40gb to 80 gb and said I could have it when my last hd crased and burned. At least I have all my program disks, so I'll be able to re-install evrything...just wont have the models or textures I started on.

Thanx for the support.

Thanx Models!

Gonna try to save the hd...might just be a virus/worm/trojan, so gonna try to re-format the hd. Also, been going through the files and there are a few that I can put on floppy since they're small...namely the Republic Cruiser I was working on. Thankfully, most of the completed models are on my site, so...

Anyway, I'm going to be working on it today, but if I have to replace it it will be friday (payday) before I can get the new one.

On the bright side, the dang thing was getting full of junk files, so this will be a nice clean up, but still, it's a pain in the caboose.

I personally prefer Western Digital...

Anyhow might I suggest changing the power settings so that your HDDs turn off after a time?

Your motor will die long before it's due if it spins constantly (esp when you arent using it)...

Thanx, hadn't thought of that.

Well, it's looking like new hd, rather than re-format.

Oh well, give me chance to finalize some of my non-fed designs for the Lost Era. Hopefully, I should be up and running by the end of the week.

Well, turns out it was the hd...but good news, I finally got my cd burner to work, filled up 2 discs with files (None of my wips though )then the dang thing went kablooey. It would start up fine, just acted weird and some of my more heavily used proggys stopped working, so was hoping to be able to reformat and re-install everything, but after the second cd-rw was done, I had to go get the kids, then when I turned it back on to finish saving files, I got a screen (blue screen of death) stating that windows was not able to start as there was a problem in boot sector xxxxx. So now I'm at the point of trying to find a reasonable priced hd. I dont need 250gb, but that seems to be all some places are carrying now, and with rent right around the corner, I can't afford it. So, hopefully, I will be back up in a few days-a week.

On a side note, looking around in the forums and finding all the great stuff going on is making me itchy to get back into things. It's good to see all the great stuff being done; all you fellow old timers will remember, as I do, when this place almost blew up from the .... no I won't mention them, as it may draw them to us like moths to a flame. Lets just say that we had some problems here, that thankfully we haven't seen in a long time.

Keep up the great stuff, and I shall return soon.
