Did you install the DirectX 9 fix and then the Beta patch or just the Beta patch? If you installed the DirectX 9 fix and then the Beta Patch it can cause crashing. The Beta Patch includes the DirectX 9 fix.

Welcome to the boards, and what's your Video Card, system specs? Might want to make sure your drivers are up to date.

Welcome to the boards..

here is how to fix the ropblem

Uninstall SFC 3 using Add/ Remove programs

Delete the SFC 3 game folder off of system

reinstall SFC 3, say no to Direct X 8.1 and say no to gamespy Arcade

Patch using SFC 3 Patch 1.01 Beta 2 Build v500, do not use the SFC Direct X fix, Do not use the Borg Bonus mission, Do not use the Nemisis Add On Pack...

all of that is included in the v500 beta patch and reinstalling it before or after the beta patch will cause game errors.. period.

after installing SFC and patching, use the SFC3 Setup.exe and set your screen res..

Make sure your Video card drivers are up to date.. NVidia just released a new driver this week

Run a Direct X diagnostic check.. check all tests (to run tests, click start, click run, type in "DXDIAG" click Ok)

if anything says out of date or anything but OK, reinstall Direct X 9.0b

find the shortcut to SFC 3, right click and select properties, click the compatibility tab, put a check mark in "Disable Visual Themes" then click OK

also make sure that your Windows XP Regional themes are set to the original language of XP.. AKA if your system is Win XP Language English but you set regions to Germany.. you will need to change region back to English...

After this you can add the Nerdlat bonus mission pack and / or add any mod that you wish to the game, so long as you follow the mod instructions of instillation.

Hope that this helps.

It is a normal one, but is Beta according to Activision...

there is a patch for specific regions.. aka.. a US patch, a German patch and a UK patch which also doubles for rest of the world...

if you are still having issues after doing the above.. recheck you Radeon drivers.. the latest drivers from ATI website should allow SFC 3 to work... if not, then lower desktop color resolution to 16 bit.

also make sure of your short cut properties as stated above.. you need to make sure Disable Visual Themes is checked... otherwise game will CTD at mission load..

Ok, run a DXDIAG

to do that go to your start button, click on run, type in DXDIAG
run all the tests
save a log file

post the log here

also check your shortcut properties again..

rightclick on your shortcut for SFC 3

click  properties

click compatibility tab

put a check in "Disable visual themes" leaving all other boxes blank

click OK

try game

if you are still having errors, please post a Direct X log report...

there must be something you are missing in the setup procedures listed above...

Direct X Log will look at your windows region settings.. if your region setting is different than OS Language, it causes Vid Card discrepencies and game crash.

Also, you may want to go into services.msc and disable UPNP (Universal Plug and Play) and also go into MSCONFIG and turn off any mouse software you have running in the background (in startup tab).. especially Logitech mouse software...
