Yes, but isn't OP an add-on to SFCI?? I don't have OP, and have no money to buy it.  So that kinda leaves me in a hole, doesn't it?

OP is a stand alone game, not an add-on. Also, it came after SFC2 not SFC1. With all the new mods out for it now and the fact that it can be had for under $10 these days (if you can find it) its a real bargain.

OP is a totally different game and gaming experience than SFC III. I'd nearly go as far to say that people who like one won't like the other, but that's not true. It's definately not the same.

yeah thats right. sfc2 op is more complex and just rocks. sfc 3 ...well , looks good, is nice to play now and than but....arghh--i just dont like it. its not a bad game but i hope if there is another sfc game somewhere in the future they base it on sfc2 op and not sfc3.
however - heres my wishlist for sfc(mod or new game)

basicly it should be an upgraded version of sfc2 op with:
a true 3d space
controlls like in sfc (mouswhel could be used for up and down)
closer to canon star trek (i know sfc is based on sfb but "based" doesnt mean its the same)
authentic cloaking effect (like in sfc3)
warp speed on the map (like in sfc3)
better damage effects - like in ka or bc.
the game should support bumpmapping and mipmapping as well as runlight effects.
the sfc2 mods should be compatible or easily covertable
the game should support a shiplist edditor
ingame mission campaign builder with the ability to import sound files for voices and music
maybe add a graphic novel like story (moddable files like bmp, tga, jpeg ) so u have a deeper story + u can make your own campaigns, storylines.
true shipclass names - i never liked that ca,dd,cl,cff or whatever designation thing.
tmp era or tosand tmp. tng is just too clean. i love tmp - when klingons were klingons and not the puppies of the federation
more nonbattle singleplayer missions - ok its a tactic game but there should be alot to explore at least when u play the feds.
more envirinments - the environments in ka were pretty cool

the list could go on endlessly but without a license and/or the sourcecode those things will never happen.

greatings,

I highly recommend you get OP aswell.  I play SFC:OP (Orions Pirates) and SFC3 too.  But for SFC3, I like too play Nanners "Generations at War" mode which has a lot of what you want in SFC3.  Its a very fun mod and even has its own original music score.  GAW almost feels like a different game and is much better then unmodded SFC3 in my opinion.

As for OP (orion Pirates) its vastly different then SFC3 because the Mechanics are based on the SFB (Starfleet Battles).  I like too think of SFC: OP and SFC3 GAW as two different Time Lines/Universes.

If there ever is a four, I'd like to see the old SFB races completed, including the Tholians, Neo-Tholians, Andromedians, and even the WYN cluster.

I also would love to see the GAW concept, like the old Federation Space and Federation and Empire board games as a strategic game, that would be pretty nice.
