Erik, about what you said on modems?
« on: February 25, 2003, 09:49:02 am »
As you stated in another post you wanted modem users to test out the beta patch. So far I can connect, play missions against the AI, but the moment another player (human) joins or attacks I get kicked to the desktop. I was able to log back in and thank goodness no "CD In Use" error. But what's the deal with 1000 disrepute? I get penealized for getting kicked now? Or is that how its supposed to work... And before anyone says get DSL or cable I can't afford it... Anyways.... Erik? Thanks!

P.S. What happend to the beta server that was up late last nite? I like it.....

This probably seems like a stupid question to you all knowing ones... but why couldn't modem play be tested before the release? - Maybe that?s why it?s a Beta patch?not properly tested??

Broadband isn?t enabled in my area (damn BT!) and so I?m limited to 56K also ? which doesn?t sound like much fun at the moment.

Finally ? not everyone has access to the internet in any form (too expensive), and so they can?t get any patch for their far too buggy original SFC3.

I replyed to eriks post before I saw these so I am posting it again for other dialups to see

hi just found out that the beta patch we've all been waiting for is finally here taa daa I was so excited. followed the link to activision to begin downloading the "fix" and lo and behold in the third pargraph it says do not download this if you are a dialup. I'm crushed almost at a loss for words which is highly unusual for an alabama chickenhauler. continuing it says the reason for this is that it will introduce lag. I got news for ya there is already lag. so, ok I realize that we dialups are a minority, some of us have no choice because we live in remote areas where a fast connection is just not available no matter how much we beg, threaten, or try to bribe the powers that be. we are out there I know because I have met a few besides myself so here are my questions for whomever can give a possible answer or other info,

are all dynaverse 3 gameservers going to be installing this patch?

when will this issue be fixed?

where can we dialups find support?

I know there are alot of dialups out there (remember when everybody was a dialup?) feel free to contact me at gravyofbama@aol.com maybe someone should start a webpage or domain just for the dialup issues.

if all the gameservers choose to install the patch I will have no other choice but to install it also and dam the consequences.

shame on me for not doing bug research on this game before I bought it, but I paid good money for it with the thought in mind that I would be able to play online with others.

I will wait patiently for a short time for the dialup patch and see which way the wind blows.

I was able to connect with a DSL user, using my lowly dial-up connection last
night (connection speed around 28.8).  We didn't battle (I disengaged) as I had
(inadvertantly) violated LOS rules.

Thanks,

Dave

Oh man, i woulda had a great time goin up against you, LOS rules be DAMNED!

To the guy trolling about its Beta status, would u be happier if they called it a final patch and never said anything about the modem issues(and any others) and ended support right there? Jeez.

The penality for dropping is *completely* an admin setting so expect
these numbers to change.

Thanks,

A large component of the delay on the patch was this issue; Activision and Taldren were not able to develop a reliable test case that repeats this behavior - that is why you folks have it now.
