Depends, what do you mean by "adding hardpoints to a ship"? Do you mean adding them to the .mod, or just adding them to the spec-file?

Any extra hardpoints you add to the .mod file or want a currently extra hardpoint to be made useable will need to be updated in the 'defaultcore.txt' file.

Dynaverse 3 will crc check your defaultloadout.txt for tampering to check to see if players are trying to cheat by adjusting mass, weapons, engines, crew, etc... That is if the server admin had the defaultloadout.txt added to their ValidatedClientFiles folder.

The Hardpoint placement tool does not add anything to the .mod.  It adds stuff to the .gf file with the model, and specifies where the hardpoints will be on the ship selection screen.  It does not actually add stuff to the model itself.

Unless theres another hardpoint placement tool other than Util5 that I don't know about.

Hey Praxis, where can I find this Hardpoint tool?  I'm thinking about making a mod for my SFC3 game (using my custom made SFB models) but i need the game too understand where my hard points go.  I tried just installing one of my ships in the game, but the hardpoints where scattered all over the place in the schematic.

Is this is what the .gf file is used for?

You can find it here amongst other places; http://www.nightsoft.net/downloads.htm#STARFLEET%20COMMAND

Something to bear in mind, is that although the utility allows you to place HPs anywhere you want,  the end results in-game may not be quite as expected, particulalrly if you're adding more than the model started with.
