Primm, Nev. -- A robot race across the Mojave Desert turned into a parade of frustration Saturday, as 15 driverless vehicles spun their wheels, flipped over and encountered rocks and ruts that befuddled sensors and baffled programming.

None of the robots managed to complete the 142 mile race.

Not a surprise. Despite all the hype, no one really expected to finish.
Although all the teams had fun working  (dunno about the "Red team". Everyone else had adjacent pits and chatted. Red had their own "our stuff is too proprietary" building.

None of the teams actually passed the initial qualifying run last Saturday. Everyone hit or was stymied by a grey Ford Aerostar parked in the middle of the path. DARPA lowered the bar, and everyone increased the sensitivity of their lidar.
