It didn't bother me, but I'm also a nube, so my opinion is not held in the same reguard as the veteran posters.

Everyone's opinion is always welcomed as long as you comply with the board rules.. it doesn't matter how new you are to the boards or to the game.. everyone can bring in a new perspective and / or add a twist to things being discussed.... no one's opinions or statements and any less valuable than anyone elses....

what makes a difference is how you post... people tend to skip difficult to read posts....

punctuation or a separation between thoughts and comments is most preferred.... however, you can post any way that you want.... if you are not good at literature or english or spelling, then you may want to take extra time to use a spell / grammar checker prior to making your post... but it is not a necessity... sometimes it is fun trying to decypher what people are trying to say  I for one like cryptograms.

Trust me. Longevity doesn't mean squat in the face of a logical, fact based post.

I was simply making an observation based on human nature folks, not a value judgement.

I did indeed come late to these boards and the game, but I'm also a Trek fan, and SFB veteran from the 70s, and a fan of the show even further back then that.

I can remember my brother and myself building the old AMT Trek kits, he loved the old Romual war bird and the Klingon D-7, and I, of course, making the Enterprise, and the shuttle, bridge and spock kits, all long before the time of many of the SFC gamers came around.

So when I kid the 'old timers' it is with a grain of salt, since I'm old as dirt, just a big kid at heart.

Hehe, Losiak is right, we stopped the many versions of how old are we here along time ago.

Here's a hint about my age, I can barely recall nixon's resignation, and I have a grandson. however, I was 6 years old when the liberty train went through Tulsa,  Oklahoma.

Actually Age, you have nothing to apoligize for. heck Your one of the Good guys here. I know I've tried to tease you abit here and in the D2, but hey Your ok. It's good to have new people here like you.

If you go to the "Cool and Refreshing" forum you will see a thread titled "SETI Thread Part III ".  The first two versions became too long and were damaged by overloading the software.  Before those 3 SETI threads there was another one on the OLD forums.  So I think that the SETI team owns the longest thread title.

I was a little bored while doing a SETI upload so I created your ship according to the info you gave and took a stock K-D7L against it.  It took under 6 minutes (difficulty Admiral) your ship took 233 internals before dying, mine had taken 58.  If I had chosen to be cautious I think that I could have defeated it while taking no internals.   Long experience teaches one all the ways the manipulate the AI and achieve victory over what appear to the newcomer to be unbeatable odds.  I am sure that many here could do the same or better.

Very good point Nemesis, BTW, we need to get this guy into Seti, seeing as I've been lazy since I lost the Broadband awhile back.

Stephen

Heck for all we know he could have Half a Million PC's ready to take on you and Raven.

Take on me?  I am not the powerhouse that Raven is (my current output is 42.7WU/day, on dialup that takes over an hour for transfers).  I have already reached my peak at 5th place.  I would welcome his joining whether he brings 1 Pentium 2 or some such obscene number as you suggestted.   The more the merrier and if anyone (or 500) people can roar past me in the ranks I will cheer them on.

Sirgod, Nemisis.. we should get Frey to use THOR on Seti.. a quad CPU Xeon server with 4 gig ram at 1 GHZ front bus speed and mem is rambus operating at motherboard front bus speed.

Does it have hyperthreading?  I have wondered just how much a system such as that would output on SETI with HT.  I have seen various claims but never with solid data behind them (mostly from Intel boosters trying to "one up" AMD users).  I would love to know the daily output of such a monster.  The team of course would welcome every Workunit.

Hyperthreading only matters if the program uses it by intention...

You can (allegedly) run 2 copies of SETI / (Hyperthreading)CPU for a major performance boost.  Some people are claiming nearly 100% (for SETI).  I suspect that they are misinterpretting the CPU usage / WU with the actual clock time per WU.  If so then the output / day would not recieve nearly the boost that they claim.  That is why I would love to see a XEON multi cpu system with hyperthreading have data recorded / day over the course of a week or month just to see how much the actual boost is.
