They don't sell it around here any more. I remember it from years ago when it was available in grocery stores. It was my favorite dressing. So Peeps at various locations if you happen to see it while shopping let me know that it is still available commercially. I'm not asking anyone to ship me any just let me know if it is still sold. I'm interested in the commercial versions as the receipes on line don't sound entirely like the stuff I remember. It look like a cross between red catalina and red vinigrette. It had fine sediment of seeds and other stuff in it, was tart and sweet and slightly oily. It was made by the all the major dressing makers still selling stuff in the stores. Anyone seen any?   in advance.

Was working in a grocery store (Winn-Dixie) before the Nat'l Guard snatched me up and sent me to play in the Sandbox.

Distinctly remember that Wishbone made a Russian ($1.43 for half-pint)- but it wasn't a big seller.

It's got to still be sold, as I have a Bottle in my Fridge, from when my wife went on a salad spree awhile back. If nothing Else, I'll go through my Cook Books and see If I can find a homemade recipee for you Bro.

If you can get Thousand Island dressing, it is very much the same if not THE same as Russian, I believe.

Thats what one site says on the internet but they are wrong. Thousand island is nothing like russian dressing. Anyway I went down to Sherman -Denison Texas and found some.

Albertsons carried it but all in all they didn't impress me very much and I ran into a psycho in the check out line. I don't think I wll be going back. Unless they are all not like that: 90 percent sef check out with a software system that is difficult to navigate. I gave up and went to the one remaining human check out. It turns out this dude that was some ways away from the queue talking on his cell phone with his back turned on the line took umbrage to my not realising he was in line. The checker was slow, so he got irate 15 minutes later and started putting his stuff on the conveyor. (i was carrying my two bottles of dressing.) I said hey I'm here. And he went off about "since you cut in line... " To which I replied I had not realised I had done so and had he said something sooner I would have apologized and let him go through. it went down hill from there. I barely kept my temper under control. The jerk turned his back on me while I was talking and never stopped talking on his cell phone all the way to his SUV. (I saw him outside still yakking while loading his groceries.) I wanted so much to kick his butt But that would have possibly interfered with my retirement process had the law gotten involved and I had my mother along as well  so I had to suck it up.

Yep, the stuff I got was made by Wishbone. Bought two bottles. Hopefully I won't have to go to albertson's to resupply. Net Grocer probably don't deliver to Ohklhomah.

Russian tastes more like French with a Kick.  About the same color as a red vinagrette.

Yes. Not at all confusable with Thousand Island yet that is precisely what a bunch of web sites are saying.

I am alergic to mayo, but I do have a recipe for it:

Russian Dressing
1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup chili sauce
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
1 teaspoon grated onion

(For chili sauce you can just combine 1t of Chili powder with 6-8 oz. of tomato sauce- This will make 3-4X what you need for this recipe.)

There shouldn't be any mayo in Russian dressing.  It looks like a red Catalina.  The mayo would make it look like thousand Island, which it isn't anything like.

Russian Dressing

2/3 cup canola oil
1/2 cup catsup
1/4 cup sugar or 2 Tbsp honey
3 Tbsp lemon juice
2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp grated onion
1/2 tsp each salt & paprika
2 hard cooked eggs, mashed (optional)

Mix all and whisk together
Shake well before serving

 Russian Salad Dressing

1 cup of salad oil
1/2 cup catchup
1/3 cup vinegar
2 Tbs sugar
1tsp salt
1/2 tsp grated onion

Combine all ingredients in the order listed and beat until thoroughly blended
 

Russian Dressing - Low Fat
2 T. ketchup
2 T. water
1/2 T. powdered fruit pectin
1/2 T. lemon juice
1 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/8 tsp. paprika
black pepper to taste
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mix all in a jar. Shake well making sure pectin is dissolves.
Chill several hours before using.
Refrigerate up to 3 days.
Shake well before using
 
 Russian Dressing Lo-Cal
1 cup tomato juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup sugar or artificial sweetener
1 tsp. onion juice
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. paprika
2 tsp. prepared mustard (French's)
2 Tblsp. chopped green pepper
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mix all ingredients together & put in refrigerator in closed jar.
Shake before using
