HHHEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: March 08, 2004, 08:02:43 pm »
Having a big problem with max5...started it this morning and got an error message saying a component couldn't be loaded, I hit ok. It was all screwy so I shut it down and re-started it...no error messages, but loaded screwy, so I shut it down, re-started the computer, re-started max, still screwy. I even did a full shut down, wait 10 seconds, then turn on...still screwy. I added a pic so you could see what is happening. Only solution I can think of is to reinstall max and hope no files are lost. ANY HELP APPRECIATED!!!!

I would install MAX in a different directory.  This should allow you to preserve any custom or working files in the old install; which you could then copy over to the new directory.  You should  back-up any WIP files before you re-install if you decide to go that route. Best of luck and keep us posted.

I got some texturing software that locks up when I try to use a plugin I used many times before.   Probably the same deal. Reinstall. Yikes.  Good luck, hope none of your WIP get lost.

Sandman. If your reinstalling back up:

- All scene files from the scenes directory
- Plugins which might be externally loaded for exporting/importing the various formats.

Anything else shoul dbe fine. This is what I usually do anyway.

Well, I've tried everything short of reformatting my hd and re-installing, and it's stil f'd up.
The USS RHEINLAND (The lost era ship I've been working on) is on hold for now, but fear not...I still have max4 on my hd and it's working fine. I wonder if there is an incompatability between max5 and my new video card...time to do some searches.

Anyway, in the meantime I'm going to start some of the other races, since the feds are pretty full. I'll keep ya posted.

Sandman. try adding:

-h

to the shortcut properties. It'll allow you to choose the rechoose the rendering device your using for 3dmax. If its an incompatibility with your graphics card that might help you to get access back to it again.
