How big are ships?

Here is a question I have never thought of before...

How "BIG" (in meters or other length units) are the ships in SFC (SFB) are there any records from ADB or in game?

Not as big as they appear in SFC, that's for sure.

The only one I know is the TOS Enterprise. It was 947 feet long. I have a picture somewhere overlaying it on the aircraft carrier Enterprise which was a bit over 1000 feet long.

OK I dug up my blueprints from 1973 -

U.S.S. Enterprise

Length Overall = 288.646 m

Width Overall = 127.102 m

Height Overall = 72.6 m

Gross Dead Weight = 190,000 metric tons

Primary Hull Maximum Diameter = 127.102 m

Primary Hull Maximum Depth = 32.5 m

Secondary Hull Length Overall = 103.632 m

Secondary Hull Maximum Diameter = 34.138 m

Distance Between Main Propulsion Units (nacelles) = 93.659 m

Main Propulsion Unit Length Overall = 153.619 m

Main Propulsion Unit Maximum Diameter = 17.3 m

Yep, and the Connie Refit is 304.8 meters long ~

However, in terms of the SFB miniatures that were produced and SFB illustrations, the Klingon Cruiser (D6 / D7) was often, I felt, over-represented in size. It is actually a much smaller ship than the Connie if you compare the actual models and stated lengths (official length is 210 - 218 meters, almost 100 m less than the refit Connie.)

Check out this excellent site:
 Starship Comparisons

You can move all the ship images around the page.

Soveriegn Class (Ent E) = 685m
Galaxy Class (Ent D) = 643m
Ambassador Class (Ent C) = 526m
Excelsior Class (Ent B) = 467m
Connie Refit (Ent A) = 305m
Connie (Ent Orignal) = 289m
