Don't forget steamed.
There is a resteraunt in CT that serves steamed burgers that has won Yankee Magazine's "Best Burger Award" several times.

My vote is grilled.

As others have said: Grilled.   No contest.

And with American cheese.  Not that I am being a patriot, or anything, but that's the best cheese to put on a burger.  Forget this chedder or montery jack nonsense.

Grilled of course.

And make them yourself - much better than premade hockey pucks.

Ptui!

Forget colby jack.  AMERICAN cheese is the only cheese that belongs on a cheeseburger.

And while we are at it, ICEBERG lettuce is the only lettuce that should be allowed there.

People try and fancy up their burgers by using unusual cheese or lettuce, not realising that the old standards are the best!

I am still on the fencing in the Worchestershire sauce debate.....

I think, in general, a good flame is the best way to cook meat.

OK, that's acceptable.  There is a camp that believes that adding actual plant-material sullies what would otherwise be a perfectly good carnivore feast...

Grilled sloooowly with garlic and onions! Garlic powder is good, but ALWAYS use freshly cut onions. White onions are best IMHO.

Also, get good beef. I used to think any good fresh beef was good. But then I started trying some from a cheap grociery store, they had the cheapest and BEST ground beef I've had. Wal-Mart, Winn Dixie, Abertsons, all had fresh beef, but tasted stale and inferior towards the bargain grociery store. The only thing I did find out is that their beef is never more than a couple hours old from being ground. I don't know if theirs was always fresher or what makes it better, but I am convinced to compare other beef among stores. But I also try to limit the amount of red meat we consume.

Oh, don't bother with liquid smoke on burgers. And if you do, make it extremely small amounts. The biggest mistake is people over doing the liquid smoke. But IMHO it tastes too artificial. I'd rather use wood chips to get the REAL THING by slowly smoking it, oh YES!!!

I think I will smoke some steaks now!

BTW, fried and boiled can also work. Just got to spice it accordningly. Boiling in a pan can be intersting if properly drained afterwards, and you get rid of alot of grease, but nothing beats the flame.

Interesting, I've got to look into that and try that next time. Don't do much steaming, most vegetables I'd rather stir fry than boil of steam, especially brocoli.
