Well if Peter Jackson were directing, it would get tons of awards, have tons of gore, and not be for the audience that the books were written for, and everyone would say it was spot on with the authors original intent...

It's hard to say how it will turn out now however, though if it is updated to modern society, soon Lewis, like Tolkien will be spinning in his grave, but everyone will say that the films are exactly like he envisioned them...and certain fans will swear by it.  In fact, the movies will become more popular than the books!

My main concern is that they will lose their allegorical quality and be reduced to Harry Potteresque proportions. One can hope though.

Oh, that is a certainty.  Disney (which has sold it's soul) is producing it.  They are targeting kids as the audience.  This will be another Harry Potter, not another LOtR.

Just so long as it is not another Starship Troopers (where you are saying "I recognize some of the names, but the story is completely unfamiliar - and it sucks.")

If it has the Disney Logo on it.  Not all things owned by Disney carry the Disney Logo...afterall, they have other studios with other names...
