I'm 20 proof, but that certainly would not have been true when I was a young airman, but nowadays, I can't handle the binge drinking, just an occasional glass of wine with dinner.

I hear ya Cpt. Mike, I'm sober and have to stay that way for a long, long time. I am going to volunteer for the genetic research VA is doing on genetic disposition on alcoholism. I read an interesting article where a scientist got mice addicted to alcohol, then played with a gene that shows a disposition for alcohol. The result? 80 percent either drank just a little of the vodka or drank the bottle that had only water! Apply that to humans, think of how many lives could be saved!

Of course though, Mr. Bush and his cronies are highly against genetic engineering, even if it saves millions of lives.   Him being a former alkie himself I think he would have more compassion for people currently addicted. But hey, that was an embarrassing time for him and I guess he does not like to talk about the issue. Politics and image you know.

At my worst (and this was the remote in Korea..I'm 36 then..and my 16 year old son seems to like getting arrested for curfue violations @ Robins AFB)..I'd get back to the barracks from work..quaff a good part of a six pack..then mellow into a litre of wine..then 10-15 shots of Jim Beam...and this was nearly every week day ..the weekends, I usually spent site seeing, but Saturday night was Soju night (ask any Korean vet what this can do to you)....

Retirement has shown me how normal people act, and with some help, I'm maintaining a great outlook on life...

Good luck to you, and never be afraid to ask for help..

Funny how most veterans of the military ended up being the biggest drinkers. You know, not too long ago VA paid soldiers for alcoholism, first thing the vets would do is run to the liquor stores and back then the liquor stores would even cash their govt. checks for them!   Social Security does pay for alcoholism and drug abuse that makes a person unemployable, but no, it is not for everyone like in the 80's. Now you have to have a whole range of psychological and genetic factors in order to qualify. The Mexicans and some other people were abusing the heck out of that in the 80's by using crooked doctors. I think is why SSA has their own doctoral staff now so they can help prevent abuse instead of taking another doctor's word for it.

Not really, when you consider when I joined, drinking age was 18 in NY, when I got to Keesler, the airman's club was almost a mandatory membership, and even though in MS @ 18 all you could get was 3.2% beer, you could still get drunk.

Then at my first assignment, I was left on my own, with money, and pretty much no one to account to as long as I didn't get arrested ...and back in the '70's, most cops would just take a military guy home and tell him to sleep it off

And that's not to mention the kindly old NCO who'd been divorced 4 times taking an interest in a young person..mostly to have someone to drink with

Fortunately, at least the USAF, alchohol has been deglamorized...but it will always be a problem (as I look throught the Artical 15 list in the base newspaper)

Edit: I guess it will take a bit for the site to move the file. Scott told me I could post some pics on his mom's site. They wanted to charge him extra to use an ftp program, so the files are uploaded through their site. Of course, at $6/year and unlimited bandwith, a little inconvenience is a small price to pay.

Wait a second... Mice laced with Vodka or Scotch?!?

Does J'inn know about this?!?!?

You are 55 PROOF

Not too bad, But then again, Ive quite drinking awhile back when Denise first got sick. Of course this darn cold Is Killing me, Every kind of Cough syrp out there has alchohol in It, Even My aunt Marions, which is Part whysky, part honey, Alot of Menthol crystals and Gelitin.

I'm with Capt. Mike though, when I was younger, and in the service,  I drank way too much. enough for at least 3 privates at times.

 You are 131 PROOF

I seem to be the highest and all I did was answer the "have you ever", "did you", etc. questions. Of course I used to be a falling down drunk, but that was when I was much, much younger.

BTW-Do I get a prize?

I believe it is a Pygmy Marmoset. One of the smallest primates, maybe the smallest.
