They didn't have to ham it up like Shatner, Nimoy, etc. They already had enough original ham on their plate.
I thought the production values were very good, but in that episode it seemed they tried to see how many Star Trek in-jokes they could cram into it. By the end of the episode, I was just praying for some Klingon, Romulan, ANYBODY to come along and put them out of their misery. The jokes came off forced, the delivery was terrible, and I didn't get the sense that any of the actors were really trying to bring their characters alive. The biggest thing missing from their "humor" was a laugh track.
Was it truly a tribute or a barely concealed spoof of TOS?
The guys over at Starship Exeter did a much better job with fewer resources.
That's my opinion on it.
